S Series How many are there?
Discussion
Just a little bored here at work (dont tell the boss) wondered if, the spreadsheet on Pistonheads has pretty much every living/loved S listed with its owner as a member of this site. Or could there be others where the owner is "flying solo" not a member of Pistonheads.
Whats your view?
.
1 - 1.5 = 56
2 = 82
3 + =118
excepting there may be some gaps in the list that I missed.

I am sure t's been discussed before but you can look into the DVLA database. At the following
http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=✓&am...
This shows not only how many are there by each type, but also how many are on the road and SORN at any point
Of course, being TVR there are many that are registered as the wrong model or with no model type at all!

Why did they do that?
Pure speculation but....Maybe there were "advantages" to fudging the production figures so chassis and engine numbers were registered as complete cars and then demands changed, anticipated orders for Tasmins didn't materialise but orders for S's did ?
Or maybe the apprentice was despatched to the tax office and coed it up
So here's an interesting thing. I think it's pretty common knowledge that lots of S Series are not correctly registered with the DVLA. As an example, my V8S is registered and the V5 shows as a 290S. It's been discussed on the forum many times and leads to confusion about how many of each model genuinely exist.
I'd always though that the fault lay with TVR and their sloppy registrations back in the day.
Anyway, I recently requested the full vehicle records for the car from the DVLA. Only costs a few quid and thought it would be nice for the history file. The history arrived in the post today.
It seems that TVR factory correctly completed the registration request as a V8S, and the fault actually lies with the DVLA. I'll be on the phone to them next week to see how we go about having them rectify the incorrect registration. I guess there's a chance that on the date my car was registered, the DVLA had not yet accepted the V8S as a model and so put it down as the closest thing ?

Let us know how you get on! Mine is the same, would prefer it to say V8S. Also might get my vehicle record if only a few quid, Cheers!
If you fancy doing the same with your car, here's the form to request the car's history:https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...
The cost is £5 payable by cheque to DVLA Swansea.
In return, you get a photocopy of the original registration document completed by TVR, and every subsequent V5 completed when a change of ownership occurred
It's not just TVR. There are probably hundreds of thousands of vehicles registered incorrectly on the DVLA database.
The most common aberration is that the make and model are entered as the make.
Now the local offices have been closed and Swansea has to do everything in-house, the chances of anything being done about this mess are less than zero.
But, of course, they still have plenty of time to sell your personal details to anyone who claims they need it.

I would think the DVLA would only send the history to the owner/ registered keeper. Or possibly the last UK owner?
As for getting the correct model type put on the V5, it's easy peasy. I queried this with DVLA when I purchased my S / Tasmin.
All you have to do is get a verification letter defining the correct model from the manufacturer (TVR), and send it to Swansea with the V5.
This is great if either :
a) your name is H.G.Wells, or....
b) your car is a DeLorean fitted with a 15 Gigawatt flux capacitor.
I decided to let it lie.
BTW, in this instance, it WAS TVR who put "Tasmin" on the original registation application form.
