Hi Guys,
I recently replaced the offside CV joints on my S1 and would like to pass on some useful info.
After a bit of research I found that the joints are Ford Sierra XR4X4 100mm Lobro type bolted flanges, 32mm thick, 25 splines.
Ford ident no stamped onto the flanges was 72GG - 4635 - BA

I was able to source a pair of brand new pattern CV joint full kits at a total cost inc next day delivery of £41.32.
The kit ( JR27 ) includes CV joint, boot, clamp rings & grease sachet, & has a 2-yr unlimited mileage warranty.

The supplier and manufacturer is www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk of Birmingham.

I recommend them highly as a satisfied customer.

The job is fairly straightforward, you need a decent Torx bit & good circlip pliers.
No more click - click - click on LH corners or on lift-off.

Just an advisory for all of you, I checked the driveshaft on the nearside whilst underneath, and three of the Torx bolts were loose. yikes
I'd suggest you check yours.

The worn offside CV's had lots of backlash when I turned the driveshaft back & forth by hand so with the noise as well were easy to diagnose.

HTH,
Glen.
I wonder if someone could enter the part / supplier details into the Useful Links Wiki for future reference?

No Joe,
It may have been the curse of the 'Ring,
or the awful roads around here.
Or just old age.

I know my joints aren't as.good as they used to be. smile

Hi Maffe,
Is that the one you were trying to sell me the sump pan from?
Is it still buried under 2 metres of snow? biggrin

Cheers Maffe.
It's the part in 2 halves that fixes around the top of the steering column behind the steering wheel.
The top half has the hazard warning switch in it.
The bottom half covers the famous yellow connector on the S.
There are cut-aways for the wiper, lighting & indicator stalks.

Thanks Maffe,
Will 'Hilding' be having a full Viking longship funeral?
With Deep Purple playing "Smoke on the Water"?

I have a tear in my eye just thinking about it. cry

Hi Glen, I do like it when someone publishes good clear guidance to help us allclap

However I fear I am about to 'muddy the water' a bit. I have had the entire rear end of my S1 off to do a variety of jobs (tank especially). I examined the drive shafts and they both had more play than I would like. I have the left hand one on the bench at the moment. The inner CV is marked 72GG4635BA which matches the number Glen gave and that in the Alternative Parts List, but the outer is marked 85BB4365AA ! irked

I am going to try to research this other part but has anyone else come across this?

Hi Richard,
I only renewed the CV joints on the offside ( RH ) driveshaft & both of the old ones were stamped with the Ford no. I quoted.
I assume that the nearside CV's would be the same.

Perhaps yours has had a replacement fitted in the past.
Or that's all that TVR could get hold of when they built your S.

As long as it's 100mm & the same no. of splines and maintains the same shaft engagement parameters, I really can't see a problem.

Mine have covered quite a few miles now & I'm quite happy with them.
