My first long experience of S seats was a trip to Classic Le Mans 2010 and back, as a navigator/ co-pilot/ flight engineer in BarryS1's P&J.
I was suprised how comfortable & supportive those seats were, even whilst changing fuses at 85 leptons. I was expecting to be crippled, but we arrived feeling fresh as you like. Even after the journey home on the Monday, I was still capable of limited perambulation as long as we were parked fairly close to the pub door. ( Different story coming out of the pub though.)

My own S seats are a rare original mix of ambla & hessian.
Or in other words, vinyl & sackcloth.
It has not been established whether or not Austin's first owner was a monk, but not many cows were sacrificed in the furnishing of my S1's interior regions.
Notwithstanding the lack of ambience, the seats are so comfortable, I just don't want to get out at the end of a journey.

Or is it because I can't move? No, S seats are comfy. Fact. I see no reason to change them.
But that"s just me.
Not sure if it is just mine but I have to say the S seats are the comfiest seats of any car I have ever sat in!

They fit perfectly! The rails on the Cerb seats are exactly the same as the one on the V8S seats and identically spaced.

I’m thinking about having them re-trimmed. The look I’d like to go for is to try and maintain the “traditional” stitched panels on the seat and back cushions. Have a look at the photo in my post of 21st March showing the seats with some dummy panes showing the contrasting effect of three or four panels. I’m leaning towards the four panel pattern.

I'd agree.

If anyone is looking to replace/restore original "S" seats and needs donor items, I now have a pair in dark brown, FREE to a good home.
The drivers seat base has "given up" , and I had to hack the runner about to get the one rusted bolt out, but back rest and head rests are fine, and the passenger seat is absolutely fine, and very comfortable according to my son, who tended to remind me about the fact, while I was perched on a bit of hardboard wedged inside the drivers seat.
Anyone interested let me know.

To make life a little easier here’s a tip for bolting the seats in. Lock nut the front bolts in place and use socket cap bolts for the rear. This way you can do the whole job single handed.

Or tack weld the four bolts to their correct spacings in the runners, then you can do the nuts up from underneath without stretching up inside the car at all.

Good idea if (a) you’ve got a welder (b) don’t want to use stainless fixings and (c) can be absolutely sure of lining up the bolts with the holes. To make sure he got the bolts in exactly the right place I assume he welded them to the rails when the seats were bolted to the floor? (I smell burning carpet laugh) Or perhaps he “eased out” the holes later? All that precision engineering is beyond me I’m afraid. jester

For bolts in these inaccessible places I have my son with a spanner to squeeze into the most uncomfortable situations while I casually get the socket on the other end, but have to curse and swear a little just so he doesn't feel he has rough end of the deal.
It works well, until he rumbles my trick.

If we are then my fantasy are the seats in the Audi RS4/6. They just look so purposeful and comfy.

A very handy "mod" and lots of good and valid reasons not to weld bolts in but it does leave the seat sitting on four nuts, not good. I sure most would use four penny washers to spread the weight, better, but I prefered to spread my weight even further across the floor pan by making up four hard wood bearers. The nuts pass through them so the whole of the runner is sat on the wood which in turn is obviously sat on the floor wink

Remains of a prototype....

Good point, only the front ones have the lock nut and these sit on penny washer spacers to spread the load. I like the hardwood bearers idea though.

I disagree,.
It's extremely difficult to weld stainless hardwood to carpet.
biggrin
For the record, he welded the bolts to the runners on the bench. Must have measured them or something.scratchchin
