Just a heads up guys that there's a discussion going on over on the Griff forum about the now (apparently) unobtainable Fiesta Mk3 servo used on the later S, Griff & Chim.

I recently bought a new servo from Hans but it's now looking like there are only a few left at Racetech at a rather painful price (~£540).

I know some of the folks here have discussed this (& thanks again to Norman for his helpful listing of part numbers).

I've offered to help the Griff guys if they are looking at this but all other thoughts appreciated. Seems sensible to combine our efforts rather than chasing this separately. Looks like it's getting to the point where we need an easy to fit alternative or a new manufacturer as stocks of the Ford OE part are pretty much exhausted.

It would be worth talking to someone that deals with this type of kit about the problem. Power Track Ltd deal with a lot of classic stuff so should know whether there are any near enough alternatives available.
powertracksales@aol.com
I have found them very helpful in the past.

Joe - I know used is an option (although are those the right model?) but even those will be running out at some point.

I think it's quite a big job on a Griff/Chim to change the servo so I know the Griff/Chim boys are after a source of new parts.

Can someone who knows exactly the right part amass a load of secound hand ones ( they can be reconditioned) it would take an organised volunteer . Probably impractical but just thinking out loud

I think it would make sense to look for an alternative servo and MC combo, latest you can get without ABS I'm assuming.
How hard can it be... ;-)

As long as the MC has 2 chambers that pump the same volume of fluid as the original it should be do-able.

After all there were Saab & Ford options.

Your right, but there are a few variables to work through, we ideally need someone that has access to the technical data for servos and master cylinders to find us a "near enough" combo with the minimum amount of rework required.
My car had a Ford KA servo and master cylinder when I bought it which fitted fine and gave me 10% more brake force due to the smaller bore cylinder. I have changed it now though as I was not happy with the reduced swept volume.

The servo I bought was a Fiesta Mk3 one. The Ford identification lable on it had the number 4049404 89FB-DB. A TVR specialist cross-checked the numbers and they corresponded to the TVR number. The master clyinder needs to have a 22.2mm bore.

Might be worth investigating mondeo servo on the back of this info
Not sure if servo diameter is too big but I'm sure someone will work it out...

Chris - I looked at a few of the Fiesta to Modeo/later Escort guides. Most seem to have comments about getting a more modern brake feel. I suspect (although haven't done the research) that the newer Ford servos used are giving more assistance (bigger as you suggest).

Personally - I don't like "a more modern brake feel" - I find most modern brakes over-servoed and a bit dull. I like the S because it doesn't have lots of servo assistance.

BUT - just my view and if it keeps someone's car on the road then that's a good thing!

Good news - PeteGriff over on the Griff forum is having a look at seeing if he can adapt a Ka servo.

Also had some positive feedback from some TVR suppliers that the problem is being though about and they are working on it.

Hi
I am new to this forum, can't find out where to introduce myself so before i pose my question i give you the short version:
My name is Robin and i am living in Belgium (Bruges). A year ago i bought my first TVR and since that moment a am in love with my TVR S from 1989.

I do have a small problem and that is braking. After i once had to brake quite hard i now have to push the pedal in about 2 inches before having any braking force. Could this be the master cilinder ? Since there is rust on the bottom of the servo and i have the Saab system i would like to upgrade.

Is there an alternative for the ford fiesta MK3 brake servo and MC ? (Since i can't seem to find a new servo any more)

Many thanks!
Robin

Ebay is your friend for parts. Just refurbish - treat rust and paint with a tough paint. Mk1 Ford KA servo and mc also suitable -ABS version iirc.

info here about fitting servo;

Have you tried Ebay?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-fiesta-mk4-1998-99-...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK2-Fiesta-Brake-Servo-/...

These two look a bit tatty but may be OK. The master cylinder needs to have a bore of 22.2mm so check that. If you can't find a new master cylinder you will probably be able for get a seal kit for it.

This is what you are looking for:-

By the way, three of us will be visiting Bruges on the 25th May following our trip to Spa. Maybe you'd like to meet up for a bier?

I have a MK3 Ford Fiesta master cylinder (22.5mm bore) with reserviour in nice (almost pristine) condition. I was just about to put it up for sale on Echo Bay (no servo with it).

I'd rather it go to somebody in the S community if possible. PM me if interested. I'll wait a couple of days before putting it officially up for sale.
