Hi there anybody know where to source a driver side fibreglass targa top from. Mine is now somewhere down the M4, and I have had no joy in finding a replacement.

There are a pair on E Bay for £230 buy it now, presuming they fit an S1

However might be an opportunity to go for the Surrey roof? This would be a more expensive option though

Try the breakers in "Useful Links " at the top of this forum,
like Douglas Valley or TVR Dean or Glen.
Or try Neil at ML Performance parts.

These panels do occassionally appear on fleabay but don't hold your breath.
Worth running a continuous search.

Sorry I can't be more helpful OP.
Anyone else know of any spares?

Re recent thread on roof clips:- I think this justifies why I always use mine if the roof is on.

Nice one Gary, I was just about to search myself. Paul is luckier than a very lucky thing, the timing couldn't be better, I've only seen two sets in as many years!

Paul, I suggest you buy a few of the new expensive lotto tickets while you're on a roll! wink
Edit: Even luckier, it's just up the road from you in Norton St Philip, Bath.
Seller: mookeys_dad
Item: TVR S folding roof panels

You won't even have to pay for delivery & you can even try before you buy.
If I need stuff, it's usually at the other end of the country wink

Aha....what do you reckon Glen, does this add to the information or the myth?
Here we have a real, live (fortunately) example of a targa panel coming off. I want to see if we can find out WHY it came off.

Little did you know it Paul, but you might be adding to S type knowledge!

I really do want to know: were roof clips fitted and if so what happened to them, were the hood stays tight etc etc.

Nightmare... Hope no one was hurt.

I am also interested in circumstances if you don't mind: specifically windows open or not? did you hit a pothole and indication of speed if possible oh and has the chassis been restored ?

At that price there may be a market for replacement panels?

Best order me some clips...

Cheers Damian S3 sans clips

Richard, the myth was already busted on the roof clips thread.
I just hope the windscreen of a following car wasn't also busted.

Gentlemen, secure those clips. ( Or just stay topless! )

Not so fast... I have contacted Bell Hill (mookeysdad) but to no avail they said that they had nothing in. I have tried tvrGlen, Douglas valley and DavidGerald who has the moulds but no tops. I saw the ebay advertised ones but wondered if S1 and S2 are different sizes ? If they are the same size I wonder why Bell Hill said they had nothing.

They were definitely on eBay when I looked earlier, why advertise them if they haven't got any??? The photos clearly show a pair of targa panels.

I'm pretty sure that all the S Series roofs were the same, only the colours varied.

Keep on trying Paul. Perhaps there's someone else at Bell Hill who can enlighten you as to what is going on.

As an afterthought, who cleas up the debris on that section of the M4?
Maybe there's an outside chance the panel survived?
Pretty long odds, but you never know..... scratchchin

Those roof panels have cropped up on the Bay many times in the last couple of years, always with an S boot lid.

Any success in finding a replacement yet OP?

You still haven't told us about the circumstances which caused your targa panel to come off.
I can't imagine too many bone jarring potholes on the M4, but I haven't been along it for quite some time.
Was the rear stay locked in place?

For those without clips, I think it's important to fit at least one, on the driver's side, because the passenger side is held in place, to a degree, by the overlap.
Please make it a priority job now that Autumn is truly upon us & the need for roofs up increases. frown We don't want any repeats of this incident, someone could get hurt.

Bring back Summer! smile

OK Glen, I do accept that some for of retainer might be a wise precaution, just in case the panel isn't in right or the tension is too loose. I also completely take your point that the drivers side is the important one. But I still think the clips are ****! ugly and potentially lethal skull deformersheadache! There must be a better way scratchchin?

Two per panel so not directly in "the line of fire" ?

although if you are unfortunate enough to be in an impact so severe you head butt the clip I suspect you'll have worse injuries to worry about ?

or at least when you get to the pearly gates you can tell St. Peter it's Glens fault you're there smile

Ha ha, it's always my fault biggrin
I'm not going through those pearly gates, I'm going through the hedge next to them!
Topless of course!

My plastic clips don't look too bad ( in the dark! ), but yes maybe two per panel would save wearing a helmet if you're worried about contacting them with your bonce.
I still don't see how you'd headbutt them with a seatbelt on. Unless there's a LOT of deformation going on.

( not to mention the defamation going on hehe )

No disrespect Glen but the idea of you going through a hedge topless........before the 9pm TV watershed as well!

I guess as long as going through topless...nothing wrong with it. On a side note...I do not have clips and have read a few post about them. This maybe a hard request (which is usually filled fast) but can you post pix of what they look like?

I can provide photo later, as bought but not yet fitted. The extra complication is the retainer piece, that they bolt to, inside the targa panel has broken loose and rattles around inside,on my driverside panel, anyone offer a suggestion (apart from cutting a hole ) as to retrieving it please.

Latched in place just above sunvisor:

Sideways view:

Unlatched:

Wide shot:

Mine are the original Southco. plastic clips, see Parts List in Useful Links.

Sorry no idea of how to retrieve loose internal rattly bits, one of my panels has one, dunno what it is, but the clips seem to be securely in place. I would think appropriate self-tappers would suffice. The main stresses on the clip attachments are in shear rather than trying to "pull out".
