And so it begins... Rebuid - S2
Discussion
Hi All,
Hope you're all good. Well, it looks like the weather has finally broken, and as my 6 months tax runs out in a few days - I've gone for it. Following a few issues this summer with the Tiv, I've decided it's time I begin what I always intended, and start to rebuild my S2. Needless to say, I'm on a budget and it will probably take a few years, but the electrical gremlins I've been experiencing this summer have meant it's not been reliable enough to 'trust' (despite a good run of 5 weeks in every day use)!!
Last straw was having to have it recovered due to what I thought was an immobiliser/solenoid fault which I eventually fixed by replacing the fuel pump relay. Started, took up our drive, put the old relay back and....it started!!!! So not sure what I managed to fix.
Anyway - here she is, bonnet off (wow how much easier is it to work on the engine)!! Don't currently have a 'plan' as such - basically get everything off, replace all the corroded bits and definitely lots of interior work. Will probably do a partial body lift and assess the chassis to see whether it can be sorted in my garage or if serious welding is required and go from there.
No doubt I will need lots of advice - and I know exactly where to find it

Andrew,
Do a full body off job - you learn so much about the car AND you'll get to see bits that will scare you when you think that you'd otherwise have missed had you just done a partial lift. I managed to do it in a single garage on my Tod (billy no mates working at odd hours) in approx. 18mths while only being in the UK 3mths of the year for a total of £85 but admittedly got the paint for free and have all the welding kit etc...(owe the wife a holiday now though so haven't factored in that cost!)
Loads of advice out there. MEP's website www.GBSportscar.com a really good start.. Others that came in handy came from http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Good luck, enjoy.

Hi Mate
As others have said, if you have the space go for the full monty.
It isn't as much as you think to get the chassis shot blasted so you can see the real damage from the dreaded tin worm and then powder coated again afterwards, or as an alternative painting. It is definately worth doing if you can. The welding can be fairly expensive depending on the damage and your skill level. I can weld but won't do this bit my self.
Once you have it in bits you can replace all the old bushes, fuel and brake lines, not a massive expense again in the grand scheme of things, but worth it.
It only gets expensive if you get carried away and start buying too many shiny bits, its difficult though to put dirty bits back on a shiny chassis
Again, as others have said, any advice or help then give me a shout, weekend away would be good for a body lift
