Just wondered if anyone knows the right fuel sender for a s290, and the best place to get it from??
Checked the wiring out and everything was working, so it has to be the sender.
Cheers lads

Be careful which part you order and make sure you're getting the right one.

Thanks very much, the connectors on that sender look totally different to my one but it should not be too hard to change my connectors.

Which one? The white-ish one in my tank, or the silver coloured one in the 2nd photo? Maybe there is a 3rd type? When you scrape all the crap off it might look completely different. Remember TVR sourced parts from different places and originally the sender unit would have been designed to connect to the OEM loom with a multi-pin connector. TVR bodged it to fit using spade connectors. Both the units I tried were designed to be fitted vertically in the OEM installation.

Yours may look more like this (mine does)........

That picture is an MGB sender, the Land Rover one seems to be the "accepted alternative" but this Triumph one looks like it could be "made to fit" ?

This general style of sender was common on a multitude of cars back in the 60's - 70's ,main difference only being the length and shape of the wire arm (apologies if I'm telling you stuff you know but you may be a youngster who wasn't around when the British motor trade was at its glorious peak) smile

My sender has 1 spade connector and the live is screwed into the back of it, when I touched the spade connector to the screwed in one the fuel gauge moved to full, I tried to unscrew the screw but it was all gunked up and I will probably end up just cutting the wire.so i suppose the screwed in one will be easy to replace with another spade connector, so it should not be a problem. Thanks again, like you said, at that price I cant go wrong.

Don't forget it's an auction, with 5 days still to go, no saying it will sell for that price!

Having said that, these things aren't exactly expensive new..... clicky

Good luck.

Hard to tell from the photo but the MGB one looks like it was designed for a horizontal installation which would make life a lot easier. Please let us know how you get on.

smile Happy days, just fitted the fuel sender phillpot recommended. Straight fit.

First of all didn't realise how much petrol I had in there, so poured it out.

before that I made sure the sender was the right one!!
For some reason its not letting me download anymore pictures!!
Easy fit though, and everything working as it should
put plenty of gasket seal around it, no leaks.

Here we go, this is the difference between the two senders, the one that was in there had been modified.

Hi Bret, Is that the mgb one that you fitted in the end? I need to replace mine.

Interesting to see the mod on the old one. The landrover type does have a long arm like the modded one, and I had to bend it to get the arm to make the correct 'sweep' from an empty to a full tank. Does the MGB one have enough length and movement to reach from empty to full using the full movement of the sender?

Mine still isn't perfect and doesn't accurately reflect the exact amount in the tank....but it does now warn me before that dreaded moment when it runs out on the M6 (the lady friend was quite good about that, and proved to be quite good at pushing the car as well! Perhaps surprisingly she is still with me)

It is the MGB one that phillpot recommended, I don't think the arm is long enough to get the best accurate swing, but just below full tank will probably register as a full tank, and as far as I know at the moment I think the fuel gauge will register empty when there is about a fivers worth of juice. Not too sure at the moment as car is on sorn.

Sounds good info, would be good to confirm when she is back on the road. I don't like the long arm one I have, it seems a little too sensitive to fuel surges in the tank.

Did you manage to figure out whether the MGB uniy was originally designed for horizontal or vertical fitting?
