Moving on but all takes time!!
At least a week... wink
Well, it's been exactly 9 weeks since you decided to go for the body-off Terry, and none of us imagined you would do the full restoration to such a high standard in such a short timescale in your spare time! clap
There are 6 weeks left to go before the Eurotour, so as long as Dave the Trimmer works his magic with the same sense of urgency, you should have time to spare and then some.
Amazing! bow I am in total awe......

So, what's left to do after the trim?

Have you thought about doing this full time?

Thanks for the support chaps, does help keep me going..

Having the facilities helps and I always seem to cut it fine when doing these projects..

The car above I took to LeMans in 1994. On the Wednesday morning before we all left, it had no interior, exhaust (actually manufactured), no glass, interior not in, brakes not bled, no mot, no tax and no insurance.! Got there and back no sweat. ;-))

No fluids in and no Dave the Trim.. :-(

Swirl pot not turned up as supplier had trouble with quality control so awaiting a new batch. Exhaust mount at the back was about 1.5" to the left so the rear looked completely pi--ed! Couldn't leave it like that so out with the mig again and a new mount welded on - all ok now. New air horns fitted, radiator, fan and worse of all new bonnet catches - what a pig of a job!!

Looks very similar to 2" industrial vacuum cleaner hose, which is what I originally used.

Top tip: keep it well away from the exhaust wink

Good news. Got the car running today - after getting the fuel pump to run the correct way!! Started first time and idled fine. Had no coolant in so it was a very brief engine test.
Removed the stupid immobiliser that uses the silly flat key thingy under the steering column. It had shorted out at some point and the key thing was melted badly. I could see why when I removed it, the small copper terminals on the key had become distorted and creating a dead short. All the immobiliser did was cut-out the feed to the starter solenoid, it could easily have been bridged with a couple of wires. While I was "in" the dash, I removed about 3 kilos (exaggeration) of dead wiring that someone had left after various ICE installs and remote locking systems. Car will be much quicker now wink...
Ended the day bonding in the top bobbin for the drivers door. What a pig but done now..

Not so urgent now, but I'll still keep posting pics of my progress..

Fitted a new brake master cylinder as old one was a bit dodgy and a new one on Fleabay was quite cheap at £60. A seal kit was £20 so a no brainer really. Just had to change the 2 front brake pipe ends to 10mm from 12mm, not too big a job.

Nice, shiny swirl pot arrived from ACT (just to add insult to injury really).. I must say the quality is much better than the item I had for my S1 a couple of years ago, nicely welded and very highly polished - looks really nice in there. Hopefully I'll get the right cap on it (Glen)! wink

Also a nice set of blue Magnecor plug leads came and a set of crystal headlamps (Land Rover) which I'll fit later..

Drivers door now re-fitted and adjusted. What an absolute PIG of a job (they all seem to be now). I took 2 attempts of bonding in the bottom bobbin to get it about right and I still ended up modding the lower pivot adjuster in the door to get it as near perfect as I could. Will probably remove the doors again for repainting when it's time..!

Clutch bled and working as are the brakes, just the coolant to add now and run up to temp..

I am really impressed by the amount and standard of work done. Makes my work rate look painfully slow. That is going to be one very sorted car. Amazing what a worn trailing arm bracket can lead to!

Know what you mean about the wiring, I was surprised how much redundant wiring I found even in my old S1. And those door pins are indeed a PIG!
Where did you buy the new bonnet catches from?

Well.....
It's been a long time since I did anything to the S, last year came and went so quickly and the poor thing got tucked away in the corner of the unit and covered up. The good news is I've just got a date for the re-spray so I'll be rooting the car out of the corner at the weekend and then it'll be all guns blazing again.! With a lot of luck and a strong back wind I possibly could make it to the eurotour in a TVR (that belongs to me Mike wink )..!!!
