Just wanted to say a huge thank you, many times my google searches for help have brought these forums up with invaluable advice.

Recently purchased my very first TVR, an S2, which needs some much needed TLC. And new problems keep popping up every time I go to use it! Being my first 'project' car, I'm very much learning by doing.

So as well as a thank you for the help and advice I've found here in the past, an even bigger thank you for the help and advice I will surely be needing in the future!

It started out as a rolling resto, but has now developed into the off the road category. Last problem which stopped it running I sorted out, had it out for a drive, put back in the garage overnight and next day wouldn't start again. Believe the problem may lie with the starter.

I'll upload some photos when I get home, work in Africa so that's not for another week or two yet though.

Apart from that problem, and any others that might decide to make themselves known it's mainly asthetics. Once I get her running again, I need to replace the bonnet catch/release mechanism which I'm halfway through doing, then the body work needs looked at, lots of little spider web cracks. Not sure yet if I'm going to fill them, or see if I can get away with a re-spray. A bit of rust on the chasis, and then the interior needs re-upholstered as well.

You are very welcome Lee, it is indeed a great and friendly forum. Heaven knows how long it would have taken me to get mine sorted had it not been for the massive amount of advice I got from other forum members. I still learn something new from the forum every week!

Hi Lee, & welcome thumbup

Check that your starter motor connections are nice & tight & free from corrosion.
A good smear of Vaseline is beneficial.
Similarly, check your engine to chassis earth straps & battery terminals.

Re your comments on the star cracks & crazing on your bodywork, do not just fill & respray, that is a complete waste of time, money, effort & paint. The cracks will re-appear in no time.
Each "leg" of the star has to be ground out to the bottom of the crack into a shallow vee, then carefully laid up with layers of fibreglass mat & resin until just below surface level, then filled & sanded to a good finish prior to painting.
It's time consuming, but proper preparation is the only way to a long lasting good finish.
You can find out more about fibreglass body repair by googling.

Good luck, enjoy your S , & show us some photos.

Cheers,
Glen smile

Hi Glen,

The earth strap and battery connections are all good. Will check the rest when I get home at the weekend.

I haven't checked all the cracks, but not all of them seem to be into the fibre glass. Some just appear to be surface cracks in the paint rather than the actual body. Again, I'll check them all when I get back and get to that point in the project. Have already got the bits I need to do the repair bookmarked. I have worked with fibre glass before and repaired fibre glass hulls in the past, will get a quick refresher online before I begin though wink

Priority is getting her starting smoothly again.
