For what it's worth I have a TomTom one xl that does accept the tyre software route files.

I like L.I.am's idea of buying refurbed units from TomTom rather than taking the fleabay gamble.

FYI : I also bought a used TomTom Go 950 live. Works perfect with Longers satnav files.

My point really was not to try and type a whole set of gps co-ordinates straight into a satnav, as I believe other people have tried before, as this would be a nightmare.
Sorry Tony, I hope my earlier reply did not give the impression I was complaining. Some people like getting their hands dirty under their car, I much prefer playing with maps!!

I agree, adding co-ordinates would be very painful yes The beauty of TYRE is you simply click on the roads you want to use then the software calculates the route for you. Simples smile

p.s. Before anyone else makes a comment, just because I have a sat nav doesn't mean I pay any attention to it smile

I'll be sending links to google maps with the satnav files wink

As I've said to plenty of people, it's not essential to have a sat nav as plenty of others already have them but I can understand why some will feel more comfortable with one.

I didn't think for a minute that you were complaining!

The salient point from this is that I really do appreciate the vast amount of effort which you put in to make sure these tours are a success. I will looking forward to meeting friends old and new this year.

Mine's a TomTomOne XL and it’s very easy to use. The only drawback is the onboard memory which isn’t big enough to store the map of Western Europe and the itinerary files; this is solved by getting a (minimum) 2GB SD card (not the HD version though, that’s not compatible). So check the memory of the one you’re interested in.

Mine is the same unit and that works fine with only the internal memory confused

When I got mine it only had the UK map loaded so I needed to download the Western Europe map from TomTom which was 1Gb. So maybe that’s why? Whjo knows? Anyway, it works a treat and makes the whole tour much more relaxing.

Not sure Barry - when buying a new one I'd recommend seeing a demo in store so you can see if it takes the itinery files. The beauty of buying one the same as mine, Longers, Joe, L.I.am or TT is that you know for definite that they do.

Just my view though but the newer device don't tend to take the files.

Word of warning:
On their website, Tomtom say they don't do free lifetime updates on their refurbed units, so it could prove expensive at each update time for whole of Europe maps.
Just saying.....

It says iQ technology, don't know if it's the same thing so will do more research today.

Barry

IQ routes is a different thing which gives more accurate journey times.

I know that earlier XL and XXL units have this function together with many other models, but I believe that the current units, including the Start do not. I went for the XXL because that is my shirt size so it should be OK.

If you get to see a nav here is the second page of the menu screens:

It has to have this to work with routes.

Hope this helps.
