Hi all,
I'm ready to buy a full set of CV joints for my S3 and wanted some advice on these options :-

Bit worried about the first option because the boot is sealed onto the plate, wondering what the quality is like for all three options and lastly will all these options fit ?

I'm having the fun and games with CV joints, only like a din I've bought (and fitted) a Cosworth diff to the S1. Downside? The original 100mm CV joints are no good when the diff is designed for 108mm. And 108mm joints are no good when they have 28 internal splines, and the S driveshaft has 25 like an XR4x4i. And 108mm CV joints with 25 internal splines do not (it seems) exist. Bugger!
Anyone know if the S shafts are just Sierra shafts, or if they're custom??

I've purchased a new LSD Cosworth diff but with the 100mm joints so just need direct replacements. I seem to think that a standard Sierra set up uses non matching shaft lengths so maybe they are Sierra but only one side. Hope that's of some use ?
If it's 100mm joints, it's not a Cosworth one, it's an XR4x4i one. The Cosworth one is 108mm.....that's what I've bought, and really that's the mistake I've made.
Watching a 4x4 diff on eBay now. Can always sell the Cossie one, but irritating as I had it refurbished!
I could use Chimaera driveshafts (if they're 450mm like the S ones) and fit 108mm joints both ends, but then I'd also need difference hub shafts too.

Now there's a coincidence....noticed some considerable play in my joints while swapping the wheels around last weekend so after reading Glens thread I have been round to J&R today and bought a set of "JR 27" cv joints for the princely sum of £16.98 each.
We'll see if these last any longer than the set I fitted (from another supplier) not long after buying the car, five or six years ago?
Be interesting to see if the more expensive ones on Ebay have J&R on the box

Sierra cosworth LSD = 108mm drive flange hard to fit.
Granada Cosworth LSD = 100mm drive flange and straight swap..
I have some good 100mm drive flanges spare as got new with my quaiffe internals if anyone wants to make an offer pm me these would make the sierra item fit the tvr s

Hi All
Fitting 108mm flanges is quite an easy job to do, you will need the 2 wd stubs and a lathe to machine them to fit your hubs, you can also use the 2 wd cossi ones as a complete unit with a bit of machining, One thing you will have to do is mod the trailing arms to get the 108mm flanges to fit, it's the bolts that catch when you have it all bolted up, just need to cut and weld where the bolts catch.
You need both 2 wd shorter drive shafts, The S uses a 30mm wide cv joint, you will have to get the Motor Sport CV 108mm X 30mm joints (£110 each).

I think once you get into lathes, cutting, machining, welding etc. some may not technically class that as "quite easy" I have decided that J&R seem to be the choice for many on here so I have followed suit and ordered my replacements.
Next question is .... replacement bolts and spreader/locking plates any idea where I can get these from ?
Once cracked off most of the old bolts came out without a fuss but there were a couple that I had to cut or use the impact driver with a slightly larger Torx bit to get enough grip to free them. So I would like to replace all the bolts just to make sure they are up to the job.

The joints should come with new bolts, and they are cap head, make sure they are 18.9 it will be stamped on them
Unfortunately not from J&R so need to source them from else where. Although I'm mighty impressed with the service from J&R ... ordered CV joints on-line yesterday afternoon and arrived this morning and all seems to be correct and the box states 3yrs warranty Chris this what I got and I made a mistake its 12.9 not 18

Thanks for the link but like you say it's not 18.9 grade which I have been advised is a risk. Surely there must still be a manufacturer of these bolts given some of the higher end CV joints supply the bolts ?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360850401876?_trksid=p20...
