Whilst dealing with a few star gel cracks on the bonnet it became clear that there was one or two lurking under the top coat that hadn't yet burst through. It seems rather pointless in forking out a good deal of the budget on a top job respray only to find that a few missed cracks came through some months later. Out came the vari-speed dewalt and a fist full of 120 discs and it was cut back in no time. Question is, would it be better to cut all the paintwork back to the gel coat or try and leave as much primer on as possible? I appreciate that cutting right back will incur more expense (with the extra paint for priming and undercoat) but hey, if it's got to be done etc...
Have to say that that smoothing a hand over the gel coat after cutting back does show up quite a few slight undulations in the molding. Anyone else found this? Or have I got a Friday-afternoon-just-before-knock-off body shell?
