Just got back from a long run and as I'm parking up I noticed engine temperature was higher than normal and fan had not kicked in. My other half noticed a burning smell. Shorted out fan switch wires, fan still not working. Then I thought check the fan fuse, dropped down the cover under dash and the burning smell hit me full on. Basically the fan fuse has practically melted in half and also the fuse holder were it pushes in has melted. Am I able to get a replacement holder for the fuses, what could be the cause of all this? Thanks G.

143 posts in a month! Are they all this witty?

The fuse could just have become loose in the holder, that would create the heat. I reckon some cheap "aftermarket" fuses have thinner connections so are not a nice tight fit to start with.

Easiest fix is probably to cut the two wires off the main fuse block and fit some kind of line fuse?

I`ve heard of this before, look at the wires and connectors on the fusebox, they can be the cause of melting fuses.

Graham,
Check that your radiator fan is free to rotate freely if you spin it by hand.
I had mine seize up last year with similar results.
Replacements are available on ebay for a reasonable price.

Happened to me 2 weeks ago, exactly the same thing. I cut back the wiring, fitted a new 30Amp fuse holder and new relay. I have now just fitted a extra fan circuit in a box under the bonet with override switch in cab. If you need wiring details give me a bell. Neil
