Hi there,
Greg from Belgium here
I'm the new owner of a black 1988 TVR S1, the car was imported in Belgium by the previous owner.
I don't have much history but some of you might possibly have some bits of history... the UK registration was E79 ENK. (the front plate shows "The Chequered Flag Garage" )
Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi Greg, you are very welcome to our friendly forum. Great set of people on here, I woulod never have sorted mine without help from the forum. I do not have any information about your exact car but I may well have general info and experience that could become of help to you. Mine is also a 1988 S1 (E630BHKJ)and I have stripped and rebuilt pretty much all of it. Good luck with your S.
Welcome! This is a great forum with lots of help and advice.
Chequered Flag Garage was in Chiswick in London and was a TVR dealer. My S3 was supplied by them in 1991. The site was redeveloped so there is not a car dealership there now. When I was young they always advertised in motoring magazines such as Motor and Autocar. I thought they were really a cool name for a sports car sales outlet. It is likely that they sold your car as a used vehicle as your registration indicates that it came from Luton in Bedfordshire, unless the plate is a personal plate for one of the owners.
Hopefully you will hear from others about the cars history but you will have lots of support here. Perhaps we can all meet up on our next Euro Tour - if we go through Belgium.
Cheers
Tony

Thanks for the warm welcome guys ! @Tony: love your story about the Chequered Flag and their ads in magazines as I also remember watching their ads and dreaming about owning a TVR in Classic & Sportscars when I was young
This car is really a little boy's dream; I have great memories about going to Zolder racetrack with my dad several times to see the TVR Clubs gathering. My Dad is now 72 and co-owner of the S.

Welcome Greg...we like Belgium...the S Club EuroTour often goes there, especially the Ardennes ....look out for the write up in Sprint...coming soon.
Plus you have another nice track there if I recall...Spa... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLen0hXRgLc

Just brought it back from the seller, located around 30 miles from Brussels, I drove it very carefully on little countryside roads. What a car !! What a noise!! :0 To be honnest, I find it too noisy to my taste, way louder than my 240z equiped with 3 40dcoe webers and a large exhaust pipe, with only 1 rear silencer.
It's not so easy to drive in comparaison with the Z, I guess I just need to get used to it and to driving on the 'wrong side'
Everything seems to work well otherwise, on thing maybe the idle is very ow when warm, I had to restart it twice after stopping at traffic lights.
The 13 inch MotoLita steering wheel is also way to small and hiding the reading of instruments, I will try to find the original steering wheel of a 15inch MotoLita.

If original/standard it should look a bit like this.....

The top ( S1 )drawing is incorrect, the cast iron manifolds are shown mirror image.[url]|http://thumbsnap.
The longer manifold is actually fitted on the other side and vice versa the shorter one, with the "hockey stick" downpipes to suit.
But the main exhaust is as depicted.
Perhaps the baffles have broken away in Greg's silencer box?
The box can be cut open to re-weld them & then be welded back up again.
Obviously remove from the car first!
It's hard to imagine a noisy S1
AutoAndy, what did you find when you opened the front section up?
Pretty much the same issue myself, the vibration from the exhaust was louder than the exhaust! I had the box opened and the baffles rewelded but it didnt cure it so we had it running on the ramps and at certain revs the noise was definitely in the section in front of the box. Presumably started when that section got a big dent!
I want to get round to doing it but I would like to hear from someone who is ahead of me on this one.
What about the box itself. Has anybody found it worth adding sound insulation. Dont get me wrong, I do not want to kill the TVR note, but getting the volume down a bit would help my hearing after a run!

...I will tell you when I get back from hols this weekend, and pay a visit to the garage and find out myself...I was told that nothing was left in mine, but I think the rattle came from there...It could be just two perforated pipes..but will let you know.Pretty much the same issue myself, the vibration from the exhaust was louder than the exhaust!
