Hi guys,
I have a tiny 11' Motolita steering wheel in my S, way to small to my taste. As anyone an original 4 spoke Motolita wheel for sale out there ? Also interested in 3 spoke Motolita leather steering wheel ! (not sure but I think the original size is 14') Best
Greg

Is THIS what you want?

They come up fairly regularly on Ebay so if you already have the boss you should get what you're looking for and recoup most of your outlay by selling the smaller one to the Mini boys.

Yes this is the one I would like to get. Is 14 inch the right (original) size ?

Bucensoreder "original", get what works for you.laugh If you want true "original" you'll need a "Personal" wheel. Unless someone comes up with the (sensible) answer later I can have a look at my original wheel tomorrow for you.

IMHO, which on this issue is of course right, the Moto-lita is the best wheel for the 'S', and is what TVR would have spec'd if they could have got them cheap enough. Others may disagree, but they are of course deluded. Cue argument laugh

Even TVR wouldn't put a classic '60s style steering wheel in an '80s car.

Suppose next you'll be wishing wire wheels had been an option. smile

Standard (and best) Personal wheel measures 13 and a quarter inches OD.

Are you sure ? I thought the standard for a s1 was a 14' 4 spokes MotoLita
Love that Personal steering wheel ? Is it for sale ?

Ah! forgot yours is an S1, 3 spoke Personal on later cars.

This is my "spare", took it off to fit a Griffith wheel, very similar but has some little "lumps" on the rim sort of where your thumbs go.

Not for sale at the moment, but if I don't find a job soon it could be!!!!

I have all the bills for my S1 since it was new and there is no reference to a change of steering wheel so I presume mine was 'original'. However we do need to remember new owners would often specify specific details to suit themselves (although I believe this happened less with the S than with the more expensive TVR's). Mine has a 14" wood wheel with 4 black spokes.
Remember that as you decrease wheel size you will increase steering effort. A drop of 1" in diameter would increase steering effort by about 7%, which on the S is quite a lot at low speeds. 2" increases effort by more than 14%. Your 10" wheel requires almost 30% more steering effort. Do you work out? Save money on the gym and drive the TVR more!
Given the number of people who would welcome power steering I wouldn't want a smaller wheel....mind you I am an old git.
I am planning to take my 'original' wood rim off and fit a leather rim wheel to be easier on my (old!) hands.

Good question, pretty sure what I bought and fitted was sold as ex Griff or Chim but they use Vauxhall column I believe?

S Series are Ford column (hexagonal fit, not spline like I remember older cars being) but boss is still on "old" steering wheel?

Is Vauxhall same as Ford hex?

Any S owners who have succummed to the Darkside care to comment?

I'm pretty sure the Vauxhall column is splined. I'm in the process of fitting a Griffith-type Personal wheel and have bought the boss for a Sierra and a TVR horn push. This will replace my original Motalita 4 spoke that is the optional 14.5" from a school bus.

Hi All
Just have to reply to Phillpots remark

Suppose next you'll be wishing wire wheels had been an option.

Mike Leave the wire wheels alone, you know they look good on a TVR hehewhistle

ears couldn't agree more, until that is, your in pursuit of Max and yourselves on the eurotour in blazing heat with sweaty hands. Then you'd wish you had a normal one - not that I would know! rolleyes
