Where is the inlet to the heater box?
This is your heater, stuffed up behind the dash near enough centrallly.

If you removed the dash you'd see this side.....

If you could see through from the engine bay you'd see this side.....

There is a flap moved by the heater slider that directs air either out the top (3 arrows) to the screen or into the white tube to feed the eyeball vents in the foot wells. That flap is a very poor fit in the housing so even when set to "interior" the majority of hot air squeezes past it back to the screen vents rather than take the convoluted path to those foot well vents.

Thanks Mike that clarifies things nicely. Looks a hi-tech bit of kit. biggrin

I agree. I think its an Aston Martin unit, the same as currently fitted to their latest models.

Three', two, one, back in the room...

Easy way to locate that heater motor: loosen the passenger side wiper spindle, drop water through to simulate rain, watch were the water goes....right into that unprotected motor! As far as I was able to establish that motor is AC Delco and unobtainable. If it hasnt seized up then the local auto electricians can probably get it wired up. If the bearings are seized or components seriously damaged by water (as mine were) then it is a question of finding a motor which can be made to fit. Not as easy as it seems as modern heaters do not use similar motor/fan arrangements. I wonder why!!! I managed to make an old Fiat Punto rad fan motor fit fairly easily. I have seen others, older Nissan Micra for example, which look as if they could be made to fit.

The structure (and I use the word loosely!) of the heater box is made of some unusual sort of plastic. We tried the normal glues and even heat welding with little success. Eventually drilled the edges and hot glued from both sides to 'stitch' an edge back together. The way the complete box, with heater rad, fan and motor, etc is mounted to the car beggars belief!

The heater feeds the screen vents, dash side vents and the "eyeballs" in the footwells. It is a 100% re-circulation system, air is drawn in from within the car, there is no fresh air input.
So all that palarva with the 2 long tubes just to blow a bit of cool air on the back of your radio....in a rag-top car?
There fixed that for you.

I love the idea of Barry's warm hands mod.
Just don't like grovelling about upside down under the dash. But it's on my list of "to do's " when I take the seats out this winter.

I cut mine out and connected it to the heater nice warm hands
Found a section of anaconda tonight previously stripped from an eyeball vent (underneath the garage dehumidifier)
Fitted it to the white pipe (pictured in Mike's photo) and the o/s eyeball without too much faff, instant success, hand warmer eyeball modification is tip top. Cheers Barry

Lots of helpful pictures and opinions here. I would like to re-instate the o/s pipe in my car because the management doesn't appreciate the warm air all going to the o/s dash outlet whilst she gets cold out of her side. The whole lost seems to need sorting out, but where can the flexible pipe (the anaconda) be obtained from? I can't find any that's big enough (60mm OD, right?).

....If the V8 is the same as the V6 they feed the two "eyeball" vents in the centre console.
It is and they do. This was my solution
Do you get much air through them with the nozzles in the arches? The wheels will create an area of low pressure, so if anything I expect them to suck air out of the cockpit laugh

But from what I read above, the anaconda pipes only supply cold air to the vents in the centre console. As Phillpot wrote above, the heated air is pulled from inside the car.

They go to the outer vents on the early dashes.

So they can't be much use at de-misting the side windows then, can they?

63mm near enough?

this might be a bit more heat resistant (if you get it anywhere near the exhaust manifolds)

Prefer orange?

This is one of the spigot thingies that are moulded into the bonnet, the ducting attaches to. I measure it at 50mm , if your ducting is quite convoluted the OD may look around 60mm but I think you need 50mm ID hose/ducting?

...............back to the Car Builder catalogue wink

I took fright at the cost and went for this stuff - price is for 10m not 1m and there is enough for 2 cars.

It is heat resistant but a little stiffer that the automotive stuff and has the added bonus that you can see if grit is building up in it!
