Been a busy weekend. Drive reorganised to free up some space and started getting hands dirty on Samy.

Cut off the rad frame and hinges. Cleaned up the metal and lathered on the Krust. Next Sunday I'll clean up the front of the chassis, Krust it all and prime it. Then wheels back on and on to the back end. If I can get the fuel tank out on Sunday then I'll be happy.

Scrap pile is growing.

The plastic shield / funnel is cracked slightly, but it has sprung back to shape. Will test the fan before binning, it is surplus to my needs either way so [subject to a payment to charity made] available to a new home.

Got a nice pile of shiney bits this week. Assuming I get the front end clean up finished this Sunday then I can start bolting things on.

Bits should be back from Performance One coatings next week so manifolds and rocker covers can go straight on.

Two items that may be tight are the ShaunS3C swirl pot (my fault for faffing on) and the fuel tank (suitable part specification) but I shall continue as if all will be ready ahead of the 21st.

May reuse some of the scrap pile for the remote filter bracketry.

Pony weather meant I didn't unwrap Samy this weekend - had a loverly drive in Tamy on Saturday though.

Arrived back at my weekly digs to find about 10-parcels waiting for me.

Radiator bushings, magnetic sump plug for the engine, radiator fans some plastic jerry cans (to enpty the tank into) and a hand pump (to empty the tank).

On top of this was two large boxes;

The stuff I had sent to Performance One Coatings. Admittedly, there's stuff for Tamy in there too. Over all, I'm pretty happy with it all. The finish is only as good as the sub base and the process doesn't include preeping it to provide a perfect base. I am in no way concerned by that. These are going in the engine bay of a working car(s) not a garage queen.

I'm ordering an 'easy up' gazeebo for the weekend so I can crack on and do the bits I can do.

I checked the head casting and they are marked with a 'K' so I am hoping that hydraulic tappets are fitted. That's one less job I need to do.

I've placed the order for an aly fuel tank. Waiting to hear back about the in tank pump. This may well be the bit that doesn't turn up in time.

Well had a good couple of days.

Got some temporary shelter up and sorted / laid out in order the bits to go back on yesterday.

Went to the Sausage Meet this morning first. Then got on with swapping bits over. Got the rocker covers swapped. Cleaned some gunk off. Fitted one manifold. Started removing the carbon canister pipe work (engine end). Removed some more gunk off the engine. Repositioned the coil and fitted a shortened bolt to replace one that was fouling the plenum.

Tomorrow, will hope to get the other manifold on, swap a couple of water hoses, clean up the front of the engine, mount the alternator and finish prepping the front of the chassis.

Will take some photos too. Was too dark when I finished today.

As Samy is a an S3C the lower front coolant pipes were wrapped in heat shielding.

As the decat pipes are smaller diameter and now ceramic coated I've decided not to worry about heat shielding the silicone items.

All the crud that is still visible on the lower half of engine was plastered all up the front. Bit of elbow grease, Swafega wipes and some brake cleaner the upper section cleaned up well.

I'll clean the lower section with the jet wash once Samy is back together.

So, tomorrow should see the front chassis prepped and Krusted. Then I will get the exhaust off and start at the back end.

Snetterton is on the 29th so not long.

On building duties over in Sandhurst next Saturday then working on Samy on Sunday.

Working on a European project for May then off to The Lebanon in June so looks like little time for driving even if the cars are working!

Paul emailled me about a trackday at Oulton Park on the 18th (I think) of August. It's mid week. You interested? Or too close to SCT?

Managed to spend six hours wire brushing, grinding and cleaning the front end.

Then slapped some Hammerite around rather than Krust. Chassis looking like Denis the Menace's jumper at the front.

Downside, although in good condition, a body off is likely in the future. If I continue with localised treament then possibly 2016. Gives me time to sort a garage.

The week has flown by again. Lots of little parcels have turned up with bits and peices but not everything.

Right, I'll be in Sandhurst one day this weekend and have a meeting in New Cross at 4pm on Monday so another 3-day weekend for me to get some stuff done.

I'll check the painted sections for missed bits and touch up as required, then refit the steering rack and replace the rack boots. That's pretty much it for the front end untill some [bespoke] parts turn up.

So on to the rear. Exhaust marked up for some mods then off to provide access. Fuel tank and cradle out. I'll give the [now] exposed sections of the rear chassis the same treatment as the front. Modifying the manual access to the boot. Removing the filler neck and cap. Then on to the wiring mods in the boot.

If I can get to this stage then I'll be happy. That'll leave fixing the refurbished and new transmission mounts for the following weekend and then on to the interior.

Bad news is that Samy isn't going to be ready for the 29th. There's a couple of bespoke items that won't be done. Partially my fault for faffing but also slow response from suppliers. Not the end of the world and if I can keep up this momentum then should be ready in May.

Slow progress as I've been distracted on other things.

Exhaust is off, boot is stripped out. Still haven't drained the fuel tank.

I need to speak to Radtec this week along with Powers.

Hopefully, will have the whole weekend next week to drop the fuel tank and rear dif.

Propose boot layout;

Battery is spaced for the boot bag. On the other side is the fuel tank access.

No need for targa panel mod as I have a Surrey Roof.

Taking the aerial and the carbon canister out frees up loads of room at the sides of the boot. I have a shelf panned for the passenger side to house 5lts of oil, 5lts of coolant and 2.5lts of washer fluid.

Spoke to Radtec this morning about the new tank. I think our [mainland] European friend Hans is getting one done at the moment. My modified one should be next.

Looks like I'll be working in the rain on Saturday.
