Hi All

I know this seems to have been done to death, but I'm struggling to ID my brake line threads.

I have a metric thread gauge, and my front lines seem to be M10x1.00, but it is difficult to tell as the threads are corroded and so the gauge only picks up on a few threads. Not helpful...

I have a 3/8 UNF fitting lying around, so thought I'd see if it fitted the back unions. It does! Great! It also fits well into the front ones too, so now I'm stuck not knowing how to definitively ID the thread types.

All help would be appreciated...

Replace all pipes, tee piece and flexi's then everything will be metric wink

Calipers, rear wheel cylinders and master cylinder are metric.

I'd think about it if I had the time. I'm currently respraying the interior and changing the carpets so the brakes were meant to be a quick upgrade!

I've offered the 3/8 fitting up to the fittings front and rear. They seem to line up on the rear brake line and are slightly out at the front which would tally with the way others cars have been.

I hope!

If it's any help......

Metric thread pitch is slightly finer than UNF (more threads per mm or should that be inch?)

UNF male will screw into a Metric female but feel "loose" (probably strip if tightened)

Metric male will not screw into UNF female more than half a turn.

Thanks

I'll have a look and see if I can find an m10 fitting and see how that looks.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm a bit far away. I have a friendly motor factors near me though, so I'll pop down there and go through their fittings I think!

So what are you trying to change, just the flexi's ?

All six should be metric both ends, front and rear.

I'm looking to just change the flexi's at the moment, as I had a rear one split over the summer and now don't trust any of them anymore.

While I'm at it, I thought I'd go for a braided upgrade, and just have the single length for the front calipers.

Just from reading up, I understood that the rear can be imperial, or possibly I have the wrong end of the stick?
