Hi everyone,

I've noticed that there is no locking system on the inside of the roof panels of my 1990 S2.
Is this normal?

Best regards,

Geoffrey

Yes like the Griffith and Chimaera they're held in place by locking into the front rail rail and being clamped by the collapsible rear section.

Some cars have clips onto the screen frame, recent thread, is that what you meant?

Hi Phillpot,

Yes, targa roof panel catches.
Furthermore, I cannot close the left hand roof strut (passenger side), it is much too tight to close. How can I resolve that problem.

Thanks for your help,

Best regards,

Geoffrey

Hi Geoffrey,
Strange that the strut won't set. Have you had a new panel or changed the struts?

If the projections on the left roof panel are lining up with the holes in the top of the windscreen, try losening the bolt at the bottom of the left strut and see if the strut will move down a little - it may only need one or two millimetres. Tighten it back up and see if you can then set the strut. If not, you may have to take a file to the bottom bolt hole to allow the strut to move down slightly. When you bolt it back up, use big washers on the boot side to spread the load across the fibreglass and to give a better grip to prevent the strut moving around.

I've got Chimaera/Griffith struts on my S and it took a bit of fannying around to get them set up right. Everything is good now and I've removed the catches at the front.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your post.

I bought the TVR a month ago. It has a new hood and the roof panels have been fully restored.
I'll follow your advice and try to gain a few millimeters. Funnily enough the right hand strut sets too far, it is not straight but bents and nearly touches the hood.

Best regards,

Geoffrey

Looking for some griff/chim struts to improve the set up
but until then I've packed the struts with washers to make them more straight when the hood is up.
This means the hoop locks tighter on the targa panels and the struts are less close to the vybak window.
Not a great photo but you get the idea.

Hi Alan461,

The washer is a good idea.
Is there any modification to carry out to install chim/griff struts?

DBst regards,

Geoffrey

A pair of seat belt pads will help protect your back window.

Different hole centres, lower, I think someone mentioned on here.
I'll find out when some turn up, if ever.

It's marginal Alan, think it depends how accurately your car was drilled originally, how worn the holes are etc.

To get my alloy ones to snap over without too much tension I filed the holes out in them, probably less than half a hole extra each hole if you get what I mean?
