I am looking to replace the panel light switch on my S3.
This is of the same size and type:

Will it just plug in and do the job?

It's the right size. You'd just need to check that in the 2nd 'on' position both circuits are live so that both front & rear fog lights are on at the same time (if that's the way you want then to work).

It's a master light switch,i.e. Off/side lights / side and head.....so,yes,both circuits live in the third position,BUT I want it to replace the panel light switch which is Off/dim/ bright,so not sure if that is compatible...not too good on car electrics!!!

I didn't think that switch was on the centre console. Mine (on a V8S) is a a rotary switch which is under the dash on the driver's side. Nevertheless it should do the job if it's replacing an existing one with a similar function.

Yes,on the S3 it's that type of switch in the centre.(no front fogs on mine)

The brightness of the dash lights is done by resistors on the circuit so all you need is a live on both on settings. So it should work. Are you sure the switch is broken rather than the resistors?

Good point. These switches are pretty robust and can be taken apart for cleaning. before you splash out on a new switch simply pull off the wires, work out which is the live and then connect it to the others and see what happens.

I know what you mean.
I've had experience with these type of switches before, they are on later Scimitars.
I found that once they start failing then cleaning them is only a temporary fix.
If they were really expensive I'd persevere but for the sake of £15 or so I think I'll go for a new one.

Good idea. They're obsolete so might as well get one whilst you can.
