Karen's lovely V8S has just developed a small electrical/fuelling problem which is, I hate to say intermittent. After careful consideration, plan B has come in to play. Some of you may guess what that will be?

Gutted about not taking her S but next year it will be out to play again. See you soon in erm, a TVR Griff-S.

Cheers, Stew and Karen.

Help Please.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 40LM. It would appear that this model [range] can't accept routes. The nearest I have got is a long list of non-descript waypoints.

I have found a few forums that say the Nuvi 40LM can't accept routes. Can anyone confirm this?

I'll call Garmin tomorrow too. Happy to throw some money at the problem - ie buy a new one - if need be.

Thanks.

I had a new garmin a couple of years ago and had the same problem. I eventually found out that Garmin and Tom Tom new devices don't accept routes. I ended up getting a refurbished older unit from Tom Tom. I got a GO 750 LIVE Europe.

I'll have a look on Ebay and post a couple of links if I find any.

No 750's on ebay but there are a few 1000's that I believe will do the job. This one for example?

Worth checking with the seller first though.

I just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 2598 LMT-D that does accept routes. Some of the cheaper models do not.

That's good news if newer units are starting to accept routes again. I was beginning to worry that the supply of old devices would run out and we'd all be back to using maps and a compass to follow Longers smile

Mind you I originally made the mistake of going to Halfords and trying to explain what a route was, and that no, a maximum of 5 waypoints would not be sufficient.

I believe TT have dropped routing from their devices.

So the Eurotours can go on clap

This is quite difficult to work out which units are suitable. Niiige and I both use TomTom XXL Classic IQ routes editions. They seem to go for around £60 or so. If you get to see a unit check that it has the itinerary planning function on page 2 of the main menu:

You will be able to load routes like these:

Also, it is best to make sure it has reasonably up to date maps of Western Europe as these can be quite expensive to upgrade.

The other salient point is that the unit will navigate from waypoint to waypoint so it is feasible for different units to choose alternative routes from A to B. None are wrong! It helps to explain (but only partially) why you see cars driving in different directions on tour!

Hope this helps.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Cheers
Tony

You can always buy a TomTom rider400 , for motorbike. It has lifetime map update and free speedcams update. It eats ITN and GPX. Its an amazing thing, will bring it on Eurotour.

Hello all SSSSS friends, about downloading the maps, I found a reliable solution.
TAKE THE S and drive to the next petrol station and download a good paper map from franse in your S.
That's what I do now.
See you all Saturday 😊
Christian.

Another option is to use the 'My Maps' Google android app, on your phone for free. You can create and save routes on this, which you can't do with the standard Google Maps app. Luckily my phone contract is with 3, so data is not charged in France. If anyone else also has a cheap/free data allowance in France, this could be an option.

Spoke to Garmin this morning and they recommended the Nuvi 58LM would fulfill my needs. Bought one and now trying to get it to work.
