After the past weeks total mess-up at both the tunnel and the ports, I would probably not want to use either again. I had no problem travelling out last Wednesday evening but I could tell there was going to be a problem coming home the following Tuesday (just gone), and the volume of immigrants, asylum seekers, stowaways, whatevers, was really worrying. Many more than when we traveled to Spa.! As the ferry and port workers in Calais decided to strike (again), the port was totally closed and we had to look for alternatives. Dunkirk-Dover full up, tunnel wanted £386 and a 12 hour queue so it had to be Dieppe - Newhaven ferry at £182..! So for the second time in less than a year, I'm having to fight the channel crossing operators to try and get some money back. Not good..
Dieppe - Newhaven ferry was brilliant, have used it many times before when going to LeMans..

Seeing as we're travelling in Septmber (so outside of the main holiday season) I'm hoping that things will have calmed down by then.

Seems a pity to me that the French cannot cause this many problems at their other borders - might help to reduce our immigrant problem if they did

Hopefully our elected "in touch with the people" politicians will have actually got of their fat expenses abusing and overpaid arses and done something about it by then - like maybe forcing our French allies to move the refugee soup kitchen and medi centre further away from the entry point to England!? Or is that a deliberate move by our EU partner over the years with the site at Sangatte! Perhaps i'm just getting cynical and twisted in my old age.
