Do I buy my Euro's for Spa trip now or is the exchange rate going to get even better?

...depends upon Greece...

... have you thought about buying all your fuel now as well, before it goes up...perhaps set up some fuel dumps along the way... wink

My research (2 minutes on Google) suggests petrol is 1.25 Euro in France, same as exchange rate near enough, so = £1 a litre

No need - just sit behind me on the Eurotour and catch the spill....

I've still got a big wodge of Swiss Francs that I never got the chance to spend. I suppose they'll come in handy if I get lost ;}

ETA I bought my Euros a good while ago when they were far more valuable than the cheap ones you get today. nuts

Buy your petrol in Belgium, it is cheaper than in France. Even better, buy it in Luxembourg where it is cheaper than in Belgium (on the eurotour maybe).

I'm pretty tempted to get some now. I have several trips to Euroland this year. But if it all falls apart during the spring then it'll just be expensive wall paper.

Glen, your Swiss Francs could be of use to me!

Its always a toughie to know when to change your hard earned cash into Euro wallpaper.

In times like these, it's a good idea to keep an eye on the rates every day. smile

Hi Guys...

In reference to buying fuel in Euroland.
My own previous EU travel experiences is that my previous classics didnt think much of French fuels !
That's in running terms, not price. So I always tried to fill up this side of the water on the outgoing journey. Then next fill up in Belgium/Lux. No problems there except for the Belgium road surfaces !!!
Also take time to look at all of the pumps to see what 'E' bio additives are being put into your tank.
The lower the E number the better (ie. E5). Especially relevant on older models.
But most of all have fun, & enjoy the experience. Hopefully we'll try to join in in 2016.
As I have to get one classic finished before I can start on my S3 restoration. (body off+++ planned for this summer). TB.

At least sur le continent they display the bio-ethanol content at the pump.
Here in good ole Blighty, we have no idea what muck we're putting in our tanks.
For instance, can anyone tell me the E ratings of Shell Nitro Plus, or Tesco Momentum?

It's about time the fuel companies were transparent as to what concoctions
they are selling to us.

Thanks Mike,

I think with Shell, it's more dancing donkey than bull wink

Perhaps I'd better get in touch with Jake Humphries to see if he knows.

Shell's public enquiry email address won't work. (Well, not for me anyway)

Wouldn't it be great if Tesco did Lego TVRs?

The engine they use for testing the Octane rating was designed in about 1920.... No wonder they don't publish the results.

You would probably get a more accurate reading by sniffing pump petrol !

Hi Greg,
Irrespective of the age of an engine, thermodynamic principles remain the same. For experimental purposes ( I.e. fuel testing ) it is required to maintain a known constant baseline to compare results. teacher

Age doesn't matter, unless you are looking to join the GTS.;)

If anyone is over 50 then you can apply for a Saga credit card. This gives a commercial rather than tourist exchange rate on transactions without the percentage load fee that is applied by many card issuers. You would have to exchange thousands of pounds of sterling to get anywhere near the same rate with folding money. I am looking forward to the day when I will be old enough to apply.whistle

I usually get the cash I need via the internet and collect locally. The last few occasions have seen Sainsburys give the best rate. They are having a sale from Monday:

http://www.sainsburysbank.co.uk/travel/ins_travelm...

Although,of course, it is worth looking at one of the comparison sites to see which provider meets your particular needs.
