1989 S listed on Ebay.

Mike,
They are two different cars.
The one on PH Classifieds, priced at a reasonable £8500 ( IF the front indicator lenses are intact ) has done 65,000 miles, whereas the one on eBay has done only 56,000 miles.
I recommend asking the vendor if he would give discount if someone were to buy them both
I think we would all agree, they are both the best colour

Hi Mick
Think you are right on the mileage being a typo.
At 8 1/2 K would think the reserve would be quite high ?. Not enough info or pictures to buy blind. Still 10 bids and up to £3100 we will see how it does. Not enough in the add for me and I would like it certified by the pope.

He states 170/200 hp/tq so I expect there also was some engine work done on the 2.8.
Or another typo error? (along with the 35mpg) Figures for the Cologne engines tend to vary a bit depending where you look but 200lb/ft of torque is maybe a little ambitious
TVR S1 2.8i specs.

Reassuring that it made it to £5k+. That's not too bad for an S1, especially with no evidence of chassis TLC.
I don't really think so.The dealer had it up at £8k and it failed to meet his reserve. The price it reached was perhaps less than the dealer paid for it.However Ebay is not the place to get a good price,he must have wanted some winter cash flow.Since a lot of work had been done to it I would assume the chassis was also restored accordingly, unless anyone knows different.
Since I own a good S I'm all for talking prices up and not down

You also have to remember, this is an S1. A mint S2, 3 or 4 would fetch more as more people prefer the 2.9 engine. Where the best S1's score is for those who deliberately choose the S1, whether it's for noise, simplicity, purity....whatever. I would say £5-6k is money I'd expect to pay for a good S1, with the ultimate cars being in the £6-7k region.
If a dealer paid more than £4500 for that car, they're in for a bad time IMO.

But what we can probably agree on is that for no apparent reason the S series are somewhat undervalued as a whole.
The values of many classics have gone up a lot over the last 10 years (e.g.Lotus Elan about 100%!) and I'm amazed often by the prices now of things that have zero appeal whatsoever to me (e.g.certain old Fords,Minivans...) and today I came across this,at random:
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C575547
...interior still to do,crappy pop up roof, yet valued by the owner beyond a concours 'S'V6 !!!
I can only conclude that the average classic buyer distrusts fibre glass cars sometimes and TVR's in particular.
Anyway,my S3 will be maintained as it should be and as such I think will always be worth at least what I paid for it...good enough I suppose.
I agree they're undervalued. It's probably the engine that does it - the V8S isn't worth a considerable amount more because it's quite rare.
In fact, I can't think of any Cologne-propelled cars that are worth strong (like £10k +) money. Capri Brooklands maybe, but that's only because it's a Ltd edition of a car that blokes get all nostalgic and weepy over. The Escort RS Turbos are heading exactly the same way.
V6 S models, and Chimaeras. Performance/sports car bargains of the century for me. Even mine (which, if I was a paying customer would be undergoing a nearly £10k refurbishment & upgrade) would be struggling to crack £6k if I sold it, all ready to go. They're definitely undervalued, but then at the same time if they weren't I probably wouldn't have one, so horses for courses
