Does anyone have any photos of how the handbrake mechanism for a V8 S should look like from under the car or a decent diagram?
My S1 has been converted to a rear disc set up some time in the past (which works well with the foot brake) but gives problems with the handbrake - drags slightly when 'off' and isn't good when applied. I assume the mod was done using parts from the V8 S but am not sure that the cable routing is correct or that the lever length below the handbrake lever pivot point is correct. The cable routing appears quite different from one side to the other - this does result in uneven force being applied to the mechanical actuators on the rear calipers.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Dave

The majority of S brake components (drum or disc) are from Ford but TVR had to shorten the handbrake cable, is it possible that whoever did your conversion used a standard, full length, cable and has come up with a contorted route to "loose" the spare?

With a bit of searching you'll probably find a picture, or someone will post one, but there's a picture of a Chimaera cable on this thread which is very similar. Couldn't be easier really, from the handbrake lever, down to two little brackets (one holds the adjuster) and splay out to each rear caliper.

See if there's anything here that helps, this page and the following page, and back on page 9.

Thanks gents,

Yes Chris, there are some very useful photos in your collection - mine is a bit of a lash up and would probably need the body off to convert it to the V8 S set up you car has, but the photos have given me a few good ideas and are a good reference.

Thanks,
Dave

Disc or drum the cable and its route are the same apart from how it attaches to calipers/brake shoes? My car is converted from drum to discs no problem, cable is a straight forward swap (with the body on) wink

Body off sounds a bit drastic to change a handbrake cable scratchchin
