You all have a lot of experience with the S cars and I'm quite a newcomer here read

I was wondering what is your opinion on buying an old Ford Scorpion 2.9 V6 to breakdown for spares ?
Possibly, close to where I live, I could get one which runs OK, but has just lost it's MOT, for < £400.

Does it make sense to consider this ?
Is it just the engine which is common, or are there other parts ? Suspension, Brakes, Transmission, etc.

Any help is very much appreciated

If you have space to keep it all there are loads of spares, mostly running gear

£250 would be closer to the mark I would have thought (£400 for the Cossy version)

First off the front brake callipers and carriers are a good upgrade on all the S models. Should have 887 or 888 stamped on them. I think the Scorpio ones were mounted using m10 bolts so fitting them is easier. Plenty of threads on here about fitting them (both to S, Chims and Grifs).

12v 2.9 is handy to have a spare complete engine especially a set of working AFMs - assuming your S has them.

Those two would be well worth the £400 alone.

The rear brakes should get you most of the way to a disc conversion to. You may need different ends to the drive shafts from another model.

Not sure what else - manual gearbox and rear diff anyone?

Depending on which Scorpio it is it may not yield much more than the engine...

Is it auto? Even if manual will be a different box I think.

Lot of Scorpio's were 5 stud wheels, brake calipers may be useful but hubs and disc's won't be

Diff, drive shafts, cv joints etc all from same "family" but possibly not directly inter-changeable?

Still worth the money for a good engine (if it is good, although they are fairly "bullet proof") and ancillaries scratchchin

Guys, thanks for the comments - these have been really helpful. I'm not sure if the car is auto or manual gearbox - I might take a look at it over the weekend, depending on how deep the snow is here !
Cheers

Hey guys. Just dropping g in as I might be resurrecting a Scorpio as my daily driver. I believe they are all 4 stud and share the Sierra stud pattern if that helps

OP if you do get it and its an estate I may be after some bits.
