Well, after 24 years of continuous ownership since new, the time has come to say goodbye. My 91 S3 has failed on the rear suspension component mountings, excessive play in the steering rack plus an emission failure. This after a moderately expensive job on the suspension last year.
But I'm barely using the car so it's pointless paying out just to keep it in the garage. It's not something I could do, or would want to do, myself.
In this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=122... over the past few years I've been coming close to putting it off road but now I've definitely decided it has to go. So if anyone who expressed an interest in taking it off my hands in that thread is still interested, or indeed anyone else, pm me for more details.
Otherwise I guess I'll be putting it on ebay or somewhere.

Outriggers are probably shot. Fixable (I do a lot of them at work) but it's not cheap to do a proper job. You could have the mounts alone done, but you'll find the rest of the tubes are probably shot too. It's straight-forward to sort, but time-consuming, hence the costs.
Shame, if you've owned it since new you must be one of the longest running S3 owners around!

Yes, shame indeed! But it's not much of a claim to fame as I barely use the car.
I did have a body off job done on it 9 years ago when they cut out the corroded bits and welded in new sections to both outriggers. And I had a rear trailing arm replaced 5 years ago plus a rear chasis section made up and fitted last year, so I think it's been looked after. But time marches on.....
