That's a fantastic result. I'd never realised you could re-spray vinyl. Can't wait to see the carpets as I'm thinking of this job for next winter's project.

Cheers dude. I'm currently spending most of my time trying to unstick bits of carpet from my hands...

Excellent work, the refurb is looking really good yes

That looks very nice thumbup The speaker in the ash-tray is brilliant; I didn't even notice it on Stuart's. Very clever!
I fitted the same arrangement on my previous S and it makes a huge difference to the sound. Current S hasn't even for a radio/CD player....yet!

Thanks.

I think I have some pictures of the speaker mounts during my very expert production! I'll dig them out and post them up in case anyone else is tempted to do the same mod.

I must say, having a set of tweeters to lift the treble makes a big difference to the sound (sacrilege I know - you should only listen to the exhaust!).

I like those!

Does the rectangular mount come with the speaker, did you make them, are they mounted into the ash tray, so many questions!

Mine were made by the car audio place I got the speakers from. Ashtrays were removed for fitting (1 of mine was broken anyway). Having the tweeter a bit higher on the door made a huge difference to the sound especially as it was possible to tweak the angle of the tweeters I fitted. I didn't listen to it a huge amount but the main door speakers had packed up and it was a neat way to tidy the broken ashtray at the same time. To finish it off I thought about fitting a sub in the space to the left of the passenger foot well but never got round to it.

Thinking of bootlegging a bit of moonshine Mike?

I thought about fitting a combined passenger footrest/ tool & spares stowage compartment with a lockable fold-down flap.

Even more precious GTS things could be stowed in the outer spaces of each foot well. There is just so much room going to waste. scratchchin

Quick update...

I've just finished (pretty much anyway) fitting the new carpets. There are a few rather frustrating areas when doing this, but overall I'm pleased with how its turned out.

Now I have to put everything back together and finish off the dash inserts. So pretty much finished really...!

Also, does anyone know the technique for getting the seatbelt reel to work when its off the car. I can't get it to pull out and I've forgotten how I did it last time...!

Cheers

Hold the reel in the same position or plane or attitude it would be in when fitted to the car, pull the belt gently..... might not go the first time but a bit of patience and jiggling and it will pull out wink

Its in good nick cheers, I did check having seen other threads. It was just riveted in though, which didn't seem very gas-tight so I've also tiger sealed it.

Also, just tried my hand at hydro-dipping. I think the best that can be said is I almost did it...!

Hi all.

A very quick update. I've just picked up my dash inserts from the hydro-dipping place. I failed with my own attempts...!

Sadly, I've struggled to take a good picture of it. Possibly as a result of waxing it three times and only using a phone for the pictures!
