Hi Guys,
Whilst rebuilding my S1 chassis, the need has arisen to replace the handbrake cables. It seems they could be one of two options.
Capri 2.8 or Sierra 2.8. The car has drum brakes.
Any of you guys help which ones are the correct ones ?
Cheers
Roy

Neither!

If you have drum brakes you need a cable from any Sierra that had drum brakes but TVR shortened them. a standard cable will be too long irked

Sierra cable = about £10

TVR cable = more like £50

What would be a source for the TVR cable?

You could try David Geralds or ML Performance.

Racetech do the V8S one (for discs) but not sure if they do the drum version.

The Lotus 7 with the de doin axle might fit, it's made for drums, I have fitted it to mine, will take a picture, cost about £30

A company like this may be able to modify a Sierra cable if you have the old one as a pattern for length?

It's a simple matter of cutting one of the ends off, shortening the wire cable, then crimping a new one on.

This is a home made new end for a disc brake cable wink

I have now tracked down the original supplier of these cables to TVR and apparently they still have the drawings and are willing to make some up at a reasonable cost (circa £35).
The price could be less if there was an order for more cables so I thought I would gauge interest to see if we can do a deal. So can you reply to this if you need a new handbrake cable for an S with rear drums.

Hi Chris,
Just to clarify, is that circa £35 ex Vat per full cable assembly, and is it one cable per car?
The Bible is not very clear on this subject, from the diagram it looks like one continuous cable serves both sides.

Whatever, put me down on the list please.
Never know when a spare may be needed.

Yes, it is one continuous cable. I have mine out of the car if you need any measurements. I expect shortening the cable would be pretty straightforward and only require a new crimp at one end.

circa £35 + vat sounds reasonable, I think "going price" from TVR Specialists is around £50ish?

I was quoted £120 + vat from a TVR specialist so the Circa £35 sounds like a bargain to me.

I am positive I have Samy's old handbrake cable in the garage - rear disc conversion carried out last year.

I don't recall there being any issues / faults with it. I'll check tonight. If I have it then it is available to anyone under my usual terms (payment of new owners choice to Longers charity).

Here's a pic found on the tvrs3.net page, c/o dave@tvrs3.net (... hope he doesn't mind me including it here). In the pic it looks like there are 2 cables (for an S3).

I have a handbrake cable in need of a bit of TLC sitting in my garage if any one needs it. It is a single cable with a yoke that the lever cables attach to.

My thought for what it is worth is that 35.00 + VAT is too much ...
compared to the price of a Sierra cable from Eurocarparts I think it is very reasonable!

Just to clarify, there is only one cable wink
