Tried a search already and found only text.

Has anyone modded the chassis crossmember under the sump to enable the sump to be removed without pulling the engine?

Photos would be great.

My thoughts are some form of bolt in strut(s) but am conscious that the outriggers are aligned with the crossmember.

Thanks.

Hi,
It's not just aligned, the front outrigger passes through the chassis, thats why if you get a hole in one side water will pass to the other side.
I made a insert 8" long to fit tight inside the outrigger tube, plug welded it to the new outriggers, not sure if it needed it but did it just the same.

Just done mine as well as I have had to change the oil pump (another story)
Have not got finished photo's yet but I made up 4 50 x 5 plates 80mm long, 2 have M8 tapped holes and are welded to the chassis and 2 have 9mm clearance holes and are welded to the cut ends of the cross member. After I welded the plates to the chassis I drilled through and taped the chassis wall as well. The centre hole allows access to the inside of the cross member and out riggers for waxoiling.

OK the welding is not the best, but it was a windy day and MIG's don't like wind.
Note its important to get everything in position on the car and tack it all together before getting too enthusiastic with the welder.
The fixings are M8 x 20lg grade 8.8 setscrews.
Rob.

Thank you peeps.

I think I'll make use of the round bar that is there but marry it with some rectangular plates. Things are looking tight for the 21st.

Shaun, I'll email you tomorrow the swirlpot details. Don't need the drop links for now.

No, yours is a bit like mine only rounder wink

That would have been some table, its not quite solid bar but it is some very thick walled stuff I scrounged from somewhere or other!
