Hi
Can anyone tell me the typical compression figure seen. I have 200psi/14bar cold with no oil added on all 6 cylinders. This seems high to me, perhaps the engine has been enhanced? Is there anything to worry about? I would have thought that better than expected compression figures, identical on all pots, was a good thing, but may indicate high compression cylinders and a special head.

From memory, when my S3 was checked, they were all approx. 170!!

Like you said, as long as they are all the same, that's the main thing.

If it puts your mind at rest, during recent investigations into why my S3 was rough running, compression on all 6 were found to be between 203-205psi. Nothing bar daily driving and looking after the car has been done to the engine from when it came out of Blackpool - cannot vouch for what they did as the factory were the first to register the car!

Thanks for the answers, my mind is at rest. The standard on the Granada with this engine according to the haynes manual was about 160 to 180 (the books in the garage so I cant exactly remember). With 2 of us here having around 200+, it seems TVR did something to the engine perhaps? Or maybe ford did on later ones.

Has your pressure tester been calibrated, or have you tested it on a different engine and got much lower results?

Just a thought...
