Trying to sort out the slight hesitancy when running at very low revs (ie poodling along in first gear)....not that I go that slow very often... wink

One simple thing checked was for any slack in the linkage system. It seems that the first linkage moves a little before the second kicks in (as shown in the photo)but I am not sure if this is an issue or not. The bearing that slides in the linkage is metal and not worn, but it does seem a loose fit in the slot...

...Dear BBC am I paranoid, or is it a sign of something more sinister?

The gear linkage is full of unnecessary pivots. A bracket, shortened cable and you can have direct connection - I think Philpot and Alan461 have posted pics of this mod. Plus you're going to save weight. wink

This setup uses the existing throttle cable, eliminates the linkage before the throttle plate and gives more travel of throttle plate/ travel of pedal.

My version uses a Cortina/Capri throttle cable still readily available from Ebay etc. rather than the "hens teeth" original wink

I have no doubts your clever solutions work, but WHY did Ford design it that way ?? They normally are very keen on "cost price reduction"

...buT in each case, the slot is still bigger than the bit that slide in it...therefore it does not move immediately that the slotted bit does...ie lag...is this not an issue?

Maybe when it was all new without a little bit of wear on every join and pivot it was quite adequate for a lumbering "executive" saloon (Granada) which would more often than not been an automatic ?

Can't make out the throttle cable picture too well, important thing is that it needs the same "ball and clip" fixing at engine end. I used a solderless nipple at the pedal end.

One of my spares hanging up in the garage is an Alexander Ref No. 487 but there are probably several that could be used with a bit of adaption?

Which reminds me - I still have the 'dog-leg' throttle plate. I know its been discussed many times before but other than trailling around scrap yards any idea on where a straight one could be sourced?

Make one? Looking at the picture above it looks like you could lower the attachment point for the cable and get more leverage and so more "feel".
