Restoration starts again....!

Following a great Eurotour, the S performed well even with a knocking big end.! However, me being me I can't put up with that engine noise for long, so this weekend was spent doing the little chassis modification and sump removal with the engine still in. I removed the cross brace by using a 5" grinder with thin cutting wheel, moved the anti-roll bar out of the way and removed the starter motor. I then set about removing the sump pan (after draining the oil).. With the big end bearing caps now exposed, I removed each bearing to find they were damaged (no surprises) and then checked the condition of the crank. I found slight scoring on a couple of the big ends but nothing major, I checked the mains and they had no significant wear at all, so a trip down to Burton Power, Romford on saturday morning was needed. I collected a new set of standard big end bearings and, after using a little wet-n-dry to clean up the big ends, fitted them sunday morning. I welded up a couple of plates to the original cross brace and re-fitted everything, filled it with some Valvoline 20-50 and turned the engine over on the starter only to pump a little oil round. After a few seconds of cranking the engine, I then started it up (with some trepidation) and hey-ho no noise and huge oil pressure even on tick over. Result..!
To say I'm pleased is an understatement, as I'm heading to Mugello on Wednesday via Switzerland and then on to see my mate near Toulouse on the way back, via the French south coast (Monaco, Antibes, Nice, etc.) Will be crossing the Millau viaduct at some stage too. As soon as I'm back it's then on to LeMans for the 24hr classic.. This will give it a decent shake down..!

Well...... after all my refurbishing and rebuilding, I’ve actually sold my beautiful S3c. I really didn’t think I would ever part with this car as it really is a fantastic example of the marque (even if I do say so myself)..! I sold my first TVR, a really early S1, to a Belgian man who was really happy with the car, and coincidently I’ve sold the S3c to a Belgian man. It’s unfortunate the car is leaving the country, but I know it’s going to a very enthusiastic new owner. I’d like to think I’ll see it again at some point..
So, a final few pics of the car as she was sold last weekend.
