Hi, just sharing a few lil oddjobs ive been able to do myself on my TVR, (finally got my wing mirrors also!)

Car mats were seriously worn so i used autostyle.co.uk to get some tailor made to as near as the original as possible, cost around £42 delivered (there was a dearer option for the premium carpet)
Before After

Previous owner had decided to just chuck in a random silver jvc stereo which didnt fit in well.. so i decided on this new pioneer in black & programmable colours to match the dash lights cost a fair bit at £118 but hey it looks good!
Before After

Shattered front indicators were replaced with BMW E30 ones off ebay for £13 a pair, which when arrived weren't nowhere near the same size but its tidied it up for now..
Before After

1 of the original door speakers were missing so i decided to keep it pioneer and replace them with 2 new ones, coast around £20 off ebay
Before After

Noticed the interior light didnt even work, under further inspection i saw it was completely shot, so ordered a ford fiesta replacement on ebay for around £5 which done the job
Before After

The hood was looking worn & discoloured so i bought some 'renovo hood dye' for around £15 and it came up like new!
Before After

Bit of autosol metal polish bought these back to shiny chrome, worked awesome on the alloys too
Before After

Decided to tart up the old shabby rubber bumpers with some chrome trim from wooliestrim.co.uk around £18 for 4 metres
Before After Before After

Other than replacing gas strut in the boot which had failed, few window seals & awaiting my touch up paint to be knocked up in metallic ash green 0532b thats about it so far, just a few lil fixes & 'fine tuning' as i call it on the interior & exterior, the big job is going to be the new wing mirrors i ordered (will post up some pics when i attempt it)

thanks for having a butchers
Steve

That's looking very smart !.
A couple of questions please as I need to do similar work on mine, and it is always easier to ask someone who's done it.
The wheels look brilliant, did you have to get lacquer off before polishing them? if so how,(did you use a mop or similar on an angle grinder to polish them?), and which chrome trim did you use from woolies for the bumpers?
Thanks & best regards
Don

hi, i cleaned them with 'Wonder Wheels Super Alloy Wheel Cleaner' from halfords, was around £7.99, as far as i know it does strip the alloy of any laquer or sealents, then bit of polishing with a rag & autosol and they came up really shiny. Just got myself a polishing wheel so im going to give that a go before sealing them with a alloy protector of some sort.
Also this was the exact chrome trim i ordered from them, got a lil bit over but it did take the 4 metres for front & back http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1923-self-adhesive... its self adhesive and hasn't peeled up anywhere yet.. i do have a good contact adhesive if not. There is a slightly thicker one too at 12mm wide but its totally your choice

Steve, with all that hard work you've done, your S1 is now virtually a S1.5 with the chrome bumper strip & 8-spoke OZs. It looks really good.

Now that you've gone for the BMW indicators ( like mine ), you just need to make up a little end finisher from black plastic to fit on the inboard edge of each of the front bumper rubbers, using superglue. It does look a lot better. But before that, are your bumper rubbers firmly attached? because the steel strip inside rusts to nothing and they can fall off, especially with no indicator lens to keep the inner ends in place.

Interesting exhaust rear section as well. Does it ground out over speed humps?

Anyway, enjoy your S, that's what it's all about. Are you coming to Buxhall this Saturday? A few of us are gathering there for the village fete & mini car show.

thank you, yes i was looking for some sort of rubber stop end but i had no luck, do you have a snap of what you did with yours?
also i did notice some pieces of rusty metal coming off inside the bumper strip on the one front end so i may have a issue there.
The exhaust system is stainless steel and was already on the car when i bought it but damn its low! getting on & off the drive is a lil tricky if i dont go at an angle.. yet to encounter a speed bump but time will tell. Maybe raising the suspension a little may help

Oh i do intend to get to one of these meetings actually, would be great to see fellow s-clubbers, think ill wait for my new wing mirrors to be fitted first as these originals are really bad to see out of, not entirely confident with them specially on such a long drive from birmingham

Just scraps of black plastic trimmed to suit & superglued in place:

Excuse muck & the stonechips that were the result of a lot of loose chippings on our drive through the Vosges Mountains.

And this is the normal S1 exhaust format:

Even without the silencer boxes like yours, mine took a lot of battering.

thanks for that, ill have to make some out of black plastic i got left over at work.

ah im looking at yours there i think mine would take a right bloody hammering over a speed bump! may have to get them looked at before i plan a long journey out

If you have any lacquer on your wheels don't use Autosol, it's abrasive!

good work Steve, always very satisfying to do that sort of work...

I am now on the "Discovered-a-12"-split-in-the-exhaust-welding-and-so-taken-off-to-get-welded-and-back-on-before-Saturday" section of work on mine!

wink

Thank you, yeah its been quite fun doing bits on it. Engine bays next! haha that'll be me when I go over a speed bump is your exhaust anything like mine? I'm seriously thinking about highering up the suspension a few inches

Gounding......its an S...they do ground! ... although normally its the hockey sticks at the front that get.....re-shaped to a flattened base.. wink
