Mine is the Saab unit and I am having a problem in getting a replacement does anyone have any sources ? The alternative is I guess to replace the whole lot with a Ford unit any advice gratefully received !

Mk3 fiesta items fit - servo and master - but are getting scarce. There's been a few on ebay recently.

master cylinder needs a 22.2mm bore.

I'm fitting a ford ka set up. Mk1 ka abs master cylinder coupled to a non-abs servo. A few have done this but there does appear to be some clearance issues as the servo is slightly larger.

that said should be doable for a home mechanic.

you could try big red for a rebuild kit for the existing master cylinder. Then get it stripped, cleaned, repainted and then rebuilt. Big red will do it for you.

Yep - got hold of Big Red , they couldn't help but put me in touch with a company in Suffolk called Past Parts and they say they can rebuild the part - not cheap but rather than changing the whole unit this suits me , just sent the old unit to them so watch this space ....

Are Past Parts based in Bury St Edmunds? I vaguely remember seeing an ad in1 of the classic car mags for a firm there that refurbs brake cylinders but never looked any further as, touch wood, mine are ok. Could be interesting to find out if they can do it & what sort of a job they do

Did you get yours refurbed by Past Parts in the end? If so, how good (or otherwise) a job did they do and at how much?

Cheers,

Jeremy

Did a perfect Job , very helpful indeed , I just sent the seized master Cylinder but should have sent them the whole unit ( with the Servo attached ) because they were not sold separately only as the whole unit . However once we had established what had happened they did the rebuild and sent it back to me with a couple of pins to stop the piston popping out of the cylinder and it was then just a matter of removing them once the Servo could be re-attached . I cant remember the total cost but around £80 inc VAT ?

Give them a call they are proper engineers.

Still worth your while trying breakers for the original fiesta ones. I found two last year and they were as new condition with no rust.

That is fine if the original unit was from a Fiesta , Saab units were also used ( as on mine )and can't be interchanged unless you are going to re-plumb everything brake wise under the bonnet .

I'd have thought the difference is minimal, enough "give" in the brake pipes to adjust them slightly?

failing that making up a brake pipe or three isn't the end of the World scratchchin

....... and you'd be shot of that messy remote reservoir on the Saab set up!

And lose the risk of the plastic connectors on the bottom of the resevoir melting too.

An extra Weetabix gave me enough strength to re-shape the brake pipes to fit - although admittedly the front ones weren't original, I had replaced those with copper ones previously (when the connectors to the flexipipes at the chassis en, fell to bits...)
