Good idea, I thought of doing exactly that but fixed mine to the end of the battery tray as it worked out easier.

Been a while since I've had a chance to do any work to the fleet.

Painted the swirlpot and some galvanised bits last night with special primer. Will post some pics once photobucket is back up. Will give them a few coats of satin black next week.

Dropped the spare heads off at a local engineering firm on Wednesday. They'll be ready in a couple of weeks which suits me fine. Just need to drop off the remaining bits of the induction pipework for cleaning and then the top end can get swapped out.

i've only just picked up on this thing about the straight slot (surely a straight slot has always got to be better than a bent one!), just checked and turns out mine is bent, and having followed your link (it's 4th page by the way, not 2nd) i would definitely like a snappier throttle response! what did you do to get the straight slot? did you weld it up and then cut it straight or is it a whole new piece? since ph pms are not working, how can i go about getting one please? thanks

i'd like to copy the bearing idea but i'd also like the straight slot plate. did you make it or is it a standard part off something else?

Spent the afternoon working on the Reserve.

Fettled with the bonnet latches again and I think the bonnet is now level and secured.

Fitted the 'mk1' turnbuckle adjuster to the alternator. For no reason other than it was sitting around in a bag 'spare';

The air filter had been fouling on the bonnet and was ripped. So fitted Samy's old one and used the face of the broken one as a sacrificial layer. Other than removing the rubber bobbins or re-drilling the mounts I can't think of how to fix this.

The throttle was very notchy. The bushing between the two throttle plates was seized so I fitted a 2rs bearing. Got two bearings left if others wish to copy;

The passenger side rocker cover was leaking badly so I fitted one off Samy that had a new gasket. I'll fit the matching one but it sounds like the tapets on that side need adjusting. So, I'll adjust them and fit the matching rocker cover.

Working on the house tomorrow. I have set aside Monday to do some more bits. One of the manifold joints is leaking so will try a mikalor clamp instead of the U clamp.

I think that Ford did produce a straight one but bent ones can be welded and recut.

There is currently a 'chain mail' plate doing the rounds between people who are getting Alan to provide a straight version. Not sure where it got to. It was my spare plate so is due to come back at some point.

Bearing mod is pretty easy. Just measure the bush and find the nearest 2rs bearing. Then just a stainless bolt, washers and nut.

Sprayed the swirlpot last night. Few runs but acceptable. Will leave in a warm room to cue whilst I await the heads being refurbed.

Swirlpot sprayed along with the Box's bike rack.

Will fit the rack on Monday but the swirlpot can wait for the heads to be ready.

Few runs on the pot but I can clean these up. Certainly fit for purpose. I'll flush the inside out with some acid and then prep the non-painted ends with some vaseline to hinder corrosion.

Painting was done in the parents garage. Although I do have the Office at J's that is currently being used as a workshop!

I freely admit I have a lot of First World Problems.

Started stripping down the front end. Cooling system drained and the top of the engine stripped back to the lower inlet and heads. Aim to get them off tomorrow.

Unpicked some of the wiring loom to relocate the coil over to the passenger side.

Also took the rear shocks off Samy as someone has asked for them as replacements. They were replaced with some Mono's.

Going to try and paint the engine mounts and get the injectors cleaned this week.

Got more stripped off today. Finishdd just before the heavens opened!

Heads are off. ARB is off. Engine mounts are off. Engine is resting on a bit of 6x2 across the chassis rail. Got some bits to spray up before rebuilding. Plus need to take the heads off Samy.

Once rebuilt, quick bed in then fluid changes. Will add the oil cooler and rad swap at that time.

Need to get a second engine mount as the passenger side one is partially split too. I may try the shorter 47mm high mounts in the cups this time.
