I hope I'm not going to regret this...

This is possibly the perfect tool for removing old paint, rust, flaky powder coat etc from tubular sections of chassis...

It's wire saw as sold in camping shops. You can hook it around the tube and pull it up and down the length of tube getting at all the inaccessible bits. Blue Peter Badge to me I think thumbup

Painting finished and a new fuel filter bracket fabricated and fitted.

The trailing arm came back today, so once that is painted it can go back on.

Did you send them off for a refurb or strip and clean yourself? I can recommend the Gunson Eezibleed for when you come to bleed off the brakes. I always this was a bit of a kop-out, but now i'm converted. It just make the job so easy thumbup

Spent three hours this afternoon with my head up my own wheel-arch fighting the old copper pipe and rubber hoses off the driver's side. Beats going to the gym I suppose laugh

Pete - not too easy to tell from your photo but I think your pusher plate might be on the wrong way around. Have a look at Phillpot's post on here...

Not as wrong as my old ones were though ... opps laugh

[quote=Deeman]... Does it make a difference? I don't know. Pete[url]

I don't know. My guess would be that so long as the little pad springs slide on the smooth part of the plate it will be OK. That is just a guess though.

As standard, the V8S came with 240mm discs on the front and 253mm on the rear. I know, smaller on the front, but that's how TVR did it (and so did Ford on a couple of Sierra versions). If you see any other size, then that is an up-grade. The way easiest by far to up-grade the fronts is to fit a 260mm caliper and disc from the Sierra XR4i (the RWD version). So for the time being I am now back to what TVR intended, ie smaller on the front.

BTW, this was the way I fitted the pusher plate to my old rear calipers when I did them in 2010.

This is the same way you have yours and they have worked fine. The plate doesn't look as sung-a-fit as the "Phillpot Method" so I'll go with Mike's suggestion this time.

..Although the rears are a larger diameter the inner diameter is very large so the swept area is nothing like as big as the fronts. (Outer diameter minus inner diameter of pad surface area)..
Good point. Hadn't thought of that.

When you compare the size of the front pads to the rear it's obvious really. Dooh silly

So I may as well go ahead and fit even bigger front discs then laugh

I opted for the 283 Sierra Cossie discs turned down to 278mm, with a washer between the carrier and the hub.

Driver's side done so now on to the other side this week...

On the home straight with the brake project now. Did the prep work on the n/s/f this afternoon and will hopefully get the new caliper ad disc fitted tomorrow.

I got the Mintex front discs and pads from Premier-Factors. The service has been excellent. There was an issue with the pads but they refunded immediately and didn't event want them back. I'd definitely recommend them.

Fingers crossed there won't be any more issues and I can get this part of the winter projects work wrapped up and move on to the next job.

Last caliper and disc fitted...

Next job is to re-locate the coil and ignition amplifier...

This was the back of the ignition amplifier..

This surface is supposed to be smooth and shiny and covered with a thin film of heat-sink goo. No wonder it was playing up in hot weather.

Using a Lucas kit I've moved the coil and ignition amplifier to the n/s bulkhead.

Jury-rigging the new set-up the check it all works, and it does thumbup

But there were no instructions, so it took a little while to work out that the mounting plate needed a separate earth.

Does anyone know what sort of current this earth needs to be? The wire I've used here has an OD of 3mm, so I suppose that makes the cable diameter around 2.5mm.
