at the end of my tether with my 'S'
Discussion
so after months of back & forth chasing up mechanics, waiting for parts, i get my 'S' back yesterday, could hear new fan auto kicking in thought great finally all the overheating problems solved! Then it went in red zone, fan had blew fuse and old wiring was a no no
Drove to city centre today, it conked out & wouldn't start back up for a minute (been doing this once every journey i take)
think im at the end of my tether with this 'S' i just cant seem to get anywhere near fixing it after all the money ive ive spent.. full service, new spark plugs, thermostat, fuel pump, rad recore, silicon hosing, oil change, water pump, 14" 12v kenlowe fan..

- update* overheating sorted, kenlowe fan wired in with correct kit, kicks in at 80°
- update2* split in air flow meter cap & mixture settings way out were causing the sudden conking out
- update3* continued to conk out within a minute or 2 of running, a corroded distributor cap may have been the culprit! Cleaned up refitted & ran smooth for now..

Thanks for the replys, it was fine when I drove it yesterday, the problem was a blown fuse to the fan and mechanic had wired it with existing instead of new wiring supplied with the fan kit.
So for the first time 'overheating' solved
As for the conking out.. It's near the start of the journey everytime itll do it once, always at stationary traffic or at traffic lights

Is this just bad idle or is it perhaps cold..? I've does it die as opposed to idle.?
Or just it suddenly stop?
ISCV issue perhaps?
Cheers

It may just be that its cold as it happens within first 5mins of journey, and suddenly stops. It's ticking over fine tho & starts up 1st time when I jump in, but struggles once it's conked outOr just it suddenly stop?
ISCV issue perhaps?

... the fans sorted now, it kicks in auto at 80degree's with no issues.
It might well do, but if the wires are on the wrong way around it will be blowing hot air off the engine through your rad instead of sucking cold air through. So easy to check and discount if everything is at it should be.While investigating how to reset my distributor, I came across an article concerning a class action in 2002 against Ford for their TFI module, which I believe may be the same ones fitted to our cars.
“The models affected have ignition modules mounted on the distributor and are listed below. When its temperature goes above 257 degrees Fahrenheit, the module is likely to cut out and cause the vehicle to die on the road. When the vehicle cools down, it can be restarted and will run until it again exceeds the design temperature. This is a hard problem to diagnose because by the time the vehicle gets towed to the dealer or sits in the shop waiting for repair, it has cooled down and no cause can be found for the stalling.”
The full details can be seen on http://www.autosafety.org/ford-tfi-module-national... or found by googling Ford TFI Module National Class Settlement California 2002.
It occurred to me that this could be the reason your car cuts out when it overheats.
125Deg C is very hot and I dont know if the distributor would ever see this temperature on the S, but it might just be worth looking into if it still cuts out when you have fixed the fan
Best regards

@lewdon, thanks for the reply, its been cutting out way before any chance of overheating usually within the first 5mins of a journey. Now I got the fan sorted an temperature staying at around 80° I'll monitor if it still cuts out, I've been told to check the coils & ignition module so hopefully one of them may be the cause.
