Has anyone got any recommendations for hard wearing red gloss chassis paint and where to purchase?

I used POR15 Hardnose on the underneath when I replaced the outriggers, which seems very good. This is now called 2k Urethane but no-one stocks it in the u.k. and shipping from the US is proving difficult and potentially expensive, not to mention that they no longer do the same red- it is now 'safety red' which might be even a bit to bright and won't match the already painted parts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nigel

Frost Restorations are probably the leading company for specialist vehicle restoration paints. Have a look at

I used a simple brush on paint, Rustoleum, few years later it's doing pretty well wink

Hammerite is as good as anything and readily available. Just leave enough drying time between coats.

I tested both the Hammerite and the Rustoleum and I found the Rustoleum to be much better. It's a quality, thick paint with excellent coverage. Would recommend this to anyone. Buy some of the Rustoleum undercoat as well, to do a proper job.

Hammerite used to be excellent until it was improved under COSH regulations - it's dire now and I wouldn't use it.

Mike/others - any recommendations on which of the Rustoleum colours is closest to the original?

This might get confusing .......

the parts of my chassis that were still quite good nick were quite a deep red, as the 7365 (ral 3000) looks on that colour chart, but those charts colours aren't too good (could be my computer?), the 7365 is a bright "pillar box/fire engine" red more like the 7366 square looks!
Don't know what 7366 looks like in real life?

Hope that helps!!!!

No offence to Joe but I'd use Rustoleum rather than Hammerite anyday.

Tekaloid was known as "good stuff" when I was a kid, few more reds to choose from scratchchin

Thanks Mike, I knew it wouldn't be simple!

Agree with you, Hammerite isn't what it used to be.

Blue paint for me. Baked on powder coat over a zinc oxide treatment.

Gary, seem to remember you having a look at mine during Sywell?

I used the Rustoleum RAL3000, it does go on really nicely, depending on how much time you fancy spending on removing the existing paint you can get an almost powder coated look with a brush.

OK, looks like I need to give this a try then. Can you paint it onto bare metal or does it need a primer and do you need special thinners/brush cleaners?

I always use a red oxide primer.

Hammerite thinners will probably be ok?
