Whilst my exhaust is off the car I'm trying to decide what to do with it?
The exhaust doesn't sound good almost like a ringing noise so thought about this mod but I've been quoted a min of £60 each way to post it to Central TVR so the cost inc vat would be near the £300 mark.
Now ACT do a new SS exhaust for approx £587 but then I don't have the space or the inclination to keep the old exhaust and feel that it's a little wasteful just to throw the old one away.Plus I could do with saving my well earned for other necessities to finish off my restoration.
There is a SS fabricators not far from me but they have quoted approx £250 but that is dependent on if they have the right diameter tubing in stock to replace the baffles and I don't know what size I need or if they would do a decent job.
So what should I do ????

RJ performance in Birmingham are worth talking too (if your not too far away from here) i popped down there other week, has been highly recommended. http://www.r-j-performance.co.uk/
I think you could possibly just replace the middle silencer box? for around £60'ish not sure about labour charges, surely not as much as fitting a new exhaust system tho

Chris, can you post a couple of pics please. Need to see if it is 'standard' and whether the damage is in the usual places! Cutting the box open is unlikely to be the solution, the absorption is in the oval front section. To be honest it is an easy job for any local SS welder if they are given the correct information.
There was a thread on PH, with pictures, but I cannot find it (the search engine simply doesnt work with the single letter S included in the subject), I wonder if someone else can find it? Otherwise I am going to have to dig into my archives and post again the pictures of a cut open system.

Yes, that is the standard layout. Dont be misled into thinking the rectangular box is the silencer, it isnt as simple as that.
Yep, well done, found the post. I hope that helps. Bit surprised my cut out picture is thumbnail, if it wont open let me know and I will dig into my 'archives'.

I am inclined to agree with Joe, Redditch and back isnt too difficult for you. You wont get yours repaired for less and you could probably still get decent money for yours even with the fault declared.
I see you are in Chesterfield, I am down that way quite often to a mate in Walton, he has some good contacts as well. Pretty sure there is another S close by? Some great roads, are you a member of Glenrobbo's TVR group?

That might be me, and Chris is partly responsible for me owning mine as I worked with him and then he moved next door but one to the old bat (my mother)or I've seen one was sold from Chesterfield fairly recently
Chris, take the advice & buy the ebay one. But be aware of this tale of what can happen if you rely on an iffy courier:

Just sayin'.
And come & join us at our next Nomads meet, last Sunday of the month at 1pm.
You'll be made most welcome, with or without your TVR.
See "TVR Events & Meetings" section.

Seriously, would anyone trust you Phillpot with that amount of stainless? Happy to pick it up for you if it's easier to collect from me, I'm "open" weekends and evenings, they might not be
Really?
There are plans for a breakfast meet at Wellesbourne on Sat 5th Dec. If it's not lashing it down with rain, I could perhaps pick it up from Mike, stick it in Austin's footwell and over the folded roof pram hood and ferry it back to Stockport. ( That is , as long as I'm not in dock having an op. I've been waiting for. ) It gets it a bit closer to Chesterfield. S Club Couriers, best bar none.

Would look pretty impressive Glen, twin exhausts and 6' ram stacks!
Seriously though, be careful, that set has the front pipes cemented on so it is going to be almost 10' long as it stands.

I could mount a shed on the back Top Gear style and put the exhaust in there with the tailpipes sticking out of the roof like a chimney. People would assume I had a wood burner in the shed.
Thanks chaps for all the options and offers of help.
Decided to purchase the advertised replacement exhaust for as very reasonable price, I just hope that it doesn't sound like my old one.
If nothing else I will have a good stock of SS for Mike for his never ending quest to have everything shiny
Maybe I could start another topic for suggestions on what to make with an old SS exhaust and down pipes
