Nice car, think it will go over that price based upon rarity and mileage

Just what I'm looking for...... sadly I've not sold the MGB V8 yet, and am only allowed 3 cars at any one time , next time perhaps.

Agree with that. Looks pretty Scuzzie in the engine bay. I wonder if the car was actually owned by Nigel Mansel as well! Interesting number plate!

No my car had the same plate . I think Mansell had a car dealership in the 1990's , my recollection is that there is a small prancing horse between his names on the plate . I did see a few people laughing in my rear view mirror (at traffic lights )and pointing at the plate like , who does he think he is .I was very tempted to change it .

The S3 was on Ebay a couple of times just before Christmas with I thought 2 different sellers.

First at £7495. Then £10K, with the ad ended saying sold, using some of the same photographs on the Anglia Auctions site.

It looks like an S4 bonnet but the battery is in the engine bay, so it's an S3.

slightly off subject but reading the performance figures quoted for the v8s in the auction ad', i note it says 240bhp and 0-60 of 4.9 secs and faster than a testarossa etc. now i like my s2 2.9 but it could certainly be faster! as it is though not slow, it is no faster than a modern hot hatch. so wondering if 240bhp means sub 5 secs 0-60 in an s, and from what i understand the boa cossie 24v engines make something like 240bhp (with free flowing exhaust etc), and are supposed to be a pretty easy swap into a 12v s, could i just drop a 24v motor in to my s2 and have testarossa beating acceleration??? yes i realise the v8s had lsd and revised suspension and brakes etc, but on a tight budget looking for cheap-ish extra power would dropping a 24v engine in my s2 really make it go from something that just keeps up with modern hatch backs to something that beats 5 litre 12cyl ferrari supercar? sounds like a plan to me! looking for bang for buck, would turbos be cheaper?

Having carried out this mod - on the road last year - I can safely say the BOA is not that powerful (Ford quote 195 in the Granny so about 210 at best) and certainly not good enough for sub 5 seconds 0-60 although I've not timed it yet. It is also not that cheap, I've done most of the work myself and not costed intimately I'd say no change from £2k for the engine/box install (I have used an MT75 box)
However apparently it does respond well to twin turbos and can more than double the 200 horses. See Boosted Performance

The 24v swap is not that straight forward. Physically getting the engine in is easy but the wiring is a ball ache - one big reason being identifying how TVR decided to build the original loom on the day of production.

As for cost, well the 24V is getting rare now and prices rising for the parts. If you can source a complete running car then beaut.

There are also issues with bonnet clearances with the top of the engine - magpies fitted a huge scoop as his solution.

For component cost the Jag / Ford 3.0 V6 is alot cheaper. But there are other issues like dif ratios, ECU and throttle systems to add in. Although a complete Jag S-Type can be had for £600.

Turbo charging is an option. If you have experience and can home brew a kit then it'll be the cheap. Pleanty of guys are doing so in the Chimp forum. Purpose designed kits - like Turbo Techniques - are thin on the ground for the 2.9 12V and expensive.

When added up, the cost of coverting to an RV8 with Megasquirt isn't that much from the above. If you can find a reasonably priced engine to start with. This thread is worth a read - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Personally, I'd start by removing some of the superflous weight out of the S. If performace is your main driver then this is going to be an easy 'win'. There's plenty of things that can be removed / modified to save weight. It all adds up to improve performance and handling.

All that said, the estimate of the V8S in the Auction is good value (assuming the car is in reasonable condition). So buying a V8S is probably the cheapest option.
