Basic head work can reap rewards. The castings are pretty rough and the ports don't match TVRs manifolds. The inlet manifolds have plenty of scope for opening up too. Philpot cleaned up the casting scars and swapped the cam (iirc) and has a healthy 189bhp

Kent and Piper do a cam.

Capacity can be increased - RND can take it to 3.7l (or maybe 3.9 memory maybe at fault).

To be honest, despite the mileage, renewal of injector o-rings and cleaning of the injectors would be worthwhile to.

Mr Zigazaga mentioned a tuner to me who offered rebuild services and promised 200bhp+ for not ridiculous monies. Can't remember who they are though.

One obvious one, check you're getting full throttle. TVR didn't fit a pedal stop which leads to the cables breaking as you pull against the throttle body stop. The flip side of that is that the throttle might be sett to no give full throttle.

Finally, you can get them 'remapped'. Austec used to do it for the S.

ahhh guys, you are brilliant, thanks alan and mk1fan, you've made my day, i love the sound and grunt of my old v6 but would love to get more power out of it, didn't know it was so do-able which is only reason i had considered engine swaps. am loving the idea of tuning my motor! i also think the exhaust is strangling performance, the guy who i sold my car to and bought it back from had a stainless system made by demon tweeks at cost of several hundred quid downpipes back (not manifolds) and i'm sure it was louder and faster before with the battered old original system! i might try taking the box out as i think it may be over baffled, and try it with straight through pipes to see if that releases some horses and if so then remake the box with a straight through absorption type baffle or a couple of cherry bombs!
mk1fan what is iirc and who is RND?
am really excited now, have whole bag of new enthusiasm, i had even considered putting the 3.0 essex in out of my mk1 transit as i am sure that is more powerful! and thought it had much more tuning potential! so happy to know i can do loads more to the cologne, thanks again guys.

by the way, i was wrong about burton power, by some miracle of syncronicity their 2016 catalogue came through my door yesterday. i was too busy working on the s2 electrics to even open it, but this morning had a flick through and found that they do supply kent cam for the 2.9 and even more excitingling there is a tripple weber manifold available for it!!!!!! not cheap but bloody hell that would look and sound good under the bonnet (or maybe poking through the bonnet) with 6 polished velocity stacks atop 3 big webers and it sure would shift!!!!! best of all would mean none of that electronic black magic being necessary, well other than for ignition anyway. http://www.burtonpower.com/inlet-manifold-3xdcnf-w...
reckon tripple webers, hot cam and cleaning up the castings would give some serious oomf to the old s.

You may find a Cosworth 24 valve a better way to go. there has been 3 or 4 done, I think to date, you could just fit a rover v8.

would love a v8s but building from scrap my car probably owes me about £2k, not £10k, i can't justify a £10k car let alone a £10k tvr, if i was going to get a v8 i would probably get a scruffy £2k wedge! ;-)

I am the proud owner of the red S3c that sold yesterday. It's condition is as good as the photos portray and I was happy to drive it the 90 miles home. Of which I couldn't say the same for the V8s, good luck to the new owner of that, who will, I'm sure be rooted out like a shy lottery winner😁
I have to say, it's the quickest purchase of a car I've ever made. All the paperwork seems in order and with the help of my extendable inspection mirror (with led lights), I was able to check the condition of most of the car.
I can't sleep, I just want to get up and clean off the dirty spray from driving her home. What a day👍👍

I left at 3.15pm and there still 90 lots to go through! So at roughly 30 lots an hour, it was gonna take us to about 5.15pm. If I hadn't bought mine, I'd have hung about to see it go through, but it really wasn't for me. There was no paperwork , just a receipt for a respray and an alloy refurb, the oil was clean and once me and another chap wrestled the rusty coolant lid off, there was no coolant in the reservoir. The chassis was ok, but had surface rust. The bodywork looked like it had been cleaned with a scourer, which for paint that was only meant to be a few months old, someone needed shooting. I just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling.
The results will be posted on their website and based on my comments, we could have a game of guess the price, until someone comes on here who actually saw it go through.
I guess, £9,000 max.
A silver one was up for sale at David Geralds and was up for 15k, that sold this week.

Have a stab😁

Results haven't come up yet on their website.

It looked in need of a bit of TLC on the photos......just what I've been looking for (but not sold the MGB V8 yet).....it will be interesting to see if it breaks the 10K barrier.

These numbers are Unicode decimal codes for Emoticons (PH calls them Smilies). These were ones which the PH forum does not recognise. e.g. &#128513 = Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes.
Not really life changing !

I wonder how much it actually went for.

Anyhow; a V8S with a ropey engine bay, and unknown history, for £15k or a fully sorted S3 for say £7,500. The V6 would be a no brainier. You'd have to really want a V8 to make that decision.

Results are now posted on Anglia Auctions website. But the only TVR listed is the Taimar, sold for £9240 incl. premium.
No mention of the V6S or V8S for some reason. frown
I would love to know how much they sold for.

ETA: Interesting to note that the lovely S3C was Lot No.42, which, as Douglas Adams fans will know, is the answer to the question of the meaning of life, the universe and everything.
( see "A Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy".) smile

It's also where the Kumars live.

So that's the new owner's TVRCC Speed Sprint Championship competition number sorted! wink
