The dimmer switch on my S4c has died! It is Lucas part number 205SA. It is a 3 point switch and could have been intended for use on something other than a dimmer on another car. There doesn't appear to be a reference for it anywhere on the web and have not seen one for sale on e-Bay, etc. Have tried the TVR breakers and they too don't have one. Does anyone know which major car manufacturer used this switch and what car it was put in?

Please see the attached photo.
any info would be appreciated ..........................

Not wishing to doubt your diagnosis (or teach you how to suck eggs) but are you sure it is the switch at fault?

Switch should be OFF - DIM - ON. Dim is created by wiring through two resistors located in the engine bay, prone to corrosion, wires falling off etc.

Assuming it is the switch they are simple little things with not a lot to go wrong, easy enough to open up and clean a dodgy contact or whatever. Pop the two clips and it should all fall apart in your hands wink........

Bit more info: clicky

Hi
Thanks for your reply .......... very much appreciated ............... and any suggestions are welcome. I opened the switch last week and someone (I suspect the previous owner's garage), has already been in the switch and the internals are missing! No metal contacts are there. Only plastic!
The search goes on !
Can't believe there isn't a listing anywhere for this part!

Yep, guess that could be the problem smile

Where is the switch on your car, does it have to "match up" with other switches? On my early S3 it is one of a row of rotary switches but by the S4 they were replaced by rocker switches.

something like this any good?

Lots to choose from on eBay, if you're not too worried about originality. It's out of sight anyway. Ir try a breakers for a fan switch of an S1 maybe?

I have been reliably informed that the same switch was used on the S1 and S2 sweeping dashboard and was used for lights, heater, etc. Anyone know where I can find one?

Thanks for all replies.
I would like to stay original if at all possible.
Yes, the early S3 had the same switch in a bank of 3 on the lower part of the dash.

Joe, sell Mr Thong your original at some appropriate "rare original genuine part" type price then buy the (probably far better made) cheapy replacement in my link .. wink
