I'll be getting up and setting off early Sunday morning,,, if the weather forecast is correct we should enjoy a fantastic Tvr/ petrolheads day in the sun.

Who's got that tight feeling in the guts already,,, hahahahah
Soooo exciting looking at those sweeping curves of the track,,

Who's got their car on their mind thinking of joints and hoses that might need a nip or just a check for peace of mind,,
It'll be a good week this week looking forward to firing up the beasts around other great cars and owners. smile

I'm off to Cadwell Park in a couple of hours time to get some practice in. It's not often you see an evening session not fully booked by the day before.....and can see it's a good weather forecast.

See you all on Sunday

If I get a clear run on it on Friday then should be there at the start line.

I shall be bringing my trolley jack, an axle stand, fuel, battery impact 'gun', small tool kit and fluids. Anyone thinking of bringing these can save some space if they'd like.

Practicing,, yikes practicing by av ya, stop that nonsense and start polishing,,, hehe
There's times when the look of your car matters more than how fast you can push it into a corner,

Like all the great drivers I'm deeply respectful of how these guys drove,, fast yes but with flair and that deft touch and understanding of car physics and that ability to do it consistently lap after lap after lap,, possibly the greatest exponent of emotion and driving as an art form Senna drove there and he must have put in some good laps on that Tarmac,, the ghosts of the past, I'm in a somber mood and this sort of thing soothes my soul so for me I must contain the feeling of driving flat out and just enjoy doing it rather than asking of myself.

I don't do these track days very often and I've found the thing I struggle with is down shifting ( toe and heel) I'm fine doing it but getting the engine revs matched to the speed of the back wheels and releasing the clutch all in one never goes perfectly,
I'll home in on that and forsake speed to get my feet flowing better. I feel I have to drive at my best,,,, not my fastest but I have to come away on Sunday night feeling I drove the car with sympathy and precision,
With the greats looking down on us it's my duty,,,,, they already know I'm super fast.hehe

Banter Anthony and boys,, let's have the craic.
And stop cheating with all this practicing,,,,,
Hope you really enjoy the evening Anthony and all good with the car. wink

I love a bit of heal and toeing, especially when it's wet!

I'd come for a ride and supervise but your driving will make me ill!

No offence, everyones does on track wink

Supervise,, hahah,, now your talking,,,,,,, just cos you've got a fast car there's no need for that,,
It's just blipping the throttle Peter,, I'm hoping my brakes will take less attention than the old ones so I won't be pressing down so hard and I've adjusted the height of the pedals slightly so I should be more proficient.
I've got these soft shocks on the car so it's compromised and I'll have to accept it,, should have got my GGP's sorted but I didn't get round to it!

I'm also at the stage where I must replace the pointless original style drop links for some that actually might work!

So my cars not track focused but it's still a blast with it dipping and leaning in turns,, you will not enjoy it but I will,, hahaha

It's funny but having just replaced my windscreen my car is taking on the look of a very tidy car,,, I'm starting to value it's newness and just how good it's become.
Peter was the first to show me a proper safe/fast Tvr Chimaera that had all the good bits added to it,, about 4 years ago,,,,
It's took me some time but I'm getting close to owning a good car that's solid in most areas.

I'll be getting my note pad out on Sunday and eying his car again,, hehe

Survived Cadwell.....

Notes:

Noise test, no cans 108.7. eek
Noise test with cans and further from the building 101
I always seem to be higher at Cadwell.

Managed just about not to crash it.
"Just about" because I missed my braking point into the 90 degree left hander before the pits entry.
Took a short herbaceous cut onto the Mountain, but it was a bit of a bump up onto the track from the grass, so my splitter is now Cerbera style (ie folded over so it faces backwards)

Nearly new A048 Yokohamas have more grip than Federal 595s or R888s.
Couldn't believe the grip levels, I barely had any slides and it just went round Coppice without braking at around 115 mph.
Problem with Cadwell is that if you do seriously exceed the grip limit it gets expensive.

Oil pressure stayed fine throughout. Temperature did too
CG locks made quite a good job of turning standard seat belts into track belts.

See you all on Sunday!

Damn, I was a cheapskate and went for the 595!

Glad you had a good time and got home safely.

Interested to hear your thoughts on the A048s being better than the R888s.

Sounds like you had a great time at Cadwell. I run a CGlock on mine l, great piece of kit for £40. I thought you had a roll bar and harnesses?

I love Cadwell, fantastic driver's track and not as dependent on max BHP as some, having 15 corners, hills, and not much in the way of straights in the 2.1 miles. I was caught and overtaken by a well driven Hillman Imp there last year. laugh

If you fancy trying it you are welcome to come and stay at mine - I am 45 minutes/miles from the track. Bring Erin Dawes and the sprog if you like - my daughter has two brattoes, 7 & 4, lives in the same house and is Erin's age, and we have dogs, cat and horses to whistleplay with, as well as a secure garden. Our guest rooms are always available. That applies to anyone else who fancies a Cadwell day, and we have room to park a camper van too for those with a serious vehicle fleet...

My R888s were never anywhere near new, so it's not a totally fair comparison, but my A048s (£960 a set new) aren't new either - they are 5 years old and cost me £300, but with virtually full tread as they had only been used on a polisher's show Subaru Imprezza until his girlfriend refused to go in the car with him due to the hard ride (a result, i would have thought, but there's no accounting for taste). The grip was awesome. For those who know Cadwell Park, in the past i have always braked hard coming down the hill to Mansfield, and have then thrown the car into the left hander as fast as i dared and dealt with the ensuing slide as well as I could. Yesterday there was little or no slide. Why don't you try them on your car on Sunday, Matthew? They only take about one lap to get to 100% working order, and we've got all day, and I will be bringing a jack and wheel gun. I wouldn't mind trying your AD08s at the same time, if I may. Same applies to anyone else who has 4 stud hubs.

I do have a roll bar, and did have harnesses, but try as i might I just couldn't get the harnesses attached as well as the standard belts with the Tuscan seats in place. Being able to remove the seat pad, which holds my lardy arse in place, and with the CG lock to fix my lower half in the seat, isn't a bad compromise, as being the driver one knows when the brakes are going on, and have the wheel to hold onto. Not so much fun for my passenger when i slam on, but there you go. Bovvered? No.

I have a set of nearly new 888s that have only done two track days and are a similar age, so should be a good comparison which you are welcome to try,
Looks like being a cracking day, if you are planning another trip to Cadwell I would be up for it I need to try some different tracks.

Yer on. On both accounts. I too want to try new tracks this year, but can never resist a trip to Cadwell, as it is such fun.
