I was only going 3/4 throttle,,,,,,,,, hahahahah believe that and I'm the Pope.

Matthew Poxons car when your behind him,, mega sound I thought.
We had some really fun laps together,, cars are evenly matched on power but his handles better than mine,,,, hahahahah bullst he's thinking,, I love my excuses,,, even I laugh at the futility of some of them.
You are so full of st Alun - hahahahah wink Nothing wrong with the way yours goes, I could't get past you. Really impressive machine when you consider it is a 450 vs a 500 and they are evenly matched.

To be fair though Alun you did have a shaky start but then you discovered that your quilted jacket was causing a bit of brake judder...

all solved with the addition of a full race suit though...

But I did have huge brake judder from the front left,, it's not right and the caliper is not pushing the out side pad on the disc enough.
The caliper sliders do wear and can get scored to the point they jam under load, which can cause horrible braking symptoms including a very soft pedal and lots of judder. I'm not sure what evidence you have which makes you think the outer pad isn't getting its fair share of braking pressure, but a stuck slider is just about the only possible cause for that.

Hi Peter (green V8) the evidence of lack of pressure is the disc face, barely any wear on the outside face compared to the inner side. The o/s is fine and you can clearly see the disc has score marks where the pad is biting.

Sliders or pins are brand new and plenty of copper slip applied.

Really violent judder from hi speed when braking,, but driving home and using the brakes normally there's no judder at all. Even firm braking there's no judder but load them up and apply them for a number of seconds and the judder will start and progressively get worse.

Probably worth doing discs and pads as cheap enough and look for wear on the caliper where the pads rest. Also had problems like this caused by contamination and incorrect pad Spring locator alignment. Yep I managed to miss one of the three prongs!!

I still have pictures of you Matt,,, smile
Race suit,, least I didn't drive home with sweaty bks,,, like you hehe

It's very true to say Dom's boys built me a powerful engine if got rid of the cat and sorted the trumpets etc, Jason's re Map,,,

Proper tyres instead of T1R's for a bloody start! Although I like then on the road though.
Yesterday was a test,, brakes are imbalanced, geo is out,, ( I have been faffing about with ride heights etc )

I like my shocks but the spring rate isn't good for racing,, anti roll is almost non existent, I will invest in proper drop links one of these days.

I kept dabbing the brakes to tuck the nose into corners,,, no front splitter,, I can go on all day,,,, hehe
Seriously these things effect confidence so it all adds up.

I totally forgot to check out Anthony's new splitter, I don't really need it for road use but it's time I replaced mine anyway.

As usual, a really good day with you guys, shame about the breakdowns, the cerb seems terminal!

We even had a pm visit from chilli, good to see you Richard!

What a strange track, lots of flowing lefts and rights and the narrowest chicane entry I've ever seen!

By way of comparison on the track it seems that your car Alun is of similar power to Anthony's 5.0 which is no bad thing.

It's strange on track, 50bhp makes a difference but not that much!

My old bus performed really well, especially in the handling dept and the last outing felt epic with all those corners knitting together nicely

For anyone who has a standard car suspension setup with road tyres and has never been on a track, you would not believe how tenacious a good setup can be! What was the speed through those bends, can't be less then close to 70mph with the car hanging on by its fingernails!

Also strange how on an open track, you get used to the power and speed and the car doesn't seem that fast! Put it on the road and that feeling soon goes wink

First check of the engine compartment showed some oil splash/leak from my catch tank!!!!! seems i'd overfilled the sump by about 10mm, what a numpty!

That soon disappeared and all was well for the remainder.

All in all a great day but can I complain about the weather,...........too hot!

Also wanted to say, commiserations to Stuart, (MK1Fan) who with the best will in the world and not for the lack of trying was beaten by his S and couldn't make it.

We'll book another soon .

Great track, focuses the mind, bit naff when your behind slow cars but when your free it's exciting.

I think Dom's rolling road is conservative.

4.5 versus 5.0 there's hardly anything in it when there revving.

I was impressed with Mattews car, seemed planted on the rears and he drives it very smoothly.

I went upstairs to grab a coffee, I heard a Tvr fire up and rumble towards the holding area, didn't see it but heard it,,
It's moments of noise brilliance like that that makes owning your own Tvr such a thrill.

One moment of competition,, I'm sat in the que and a Mazda owner chuckled, " it was a matter of time before a Tvr blew up"
I mentioned his £1500 piece of Jap crap,,, then found him on track and ripped through him like a dose of salts.
He got the point.

I really enjoyed the tight chicane and then onto the long right hander,, I was steady through there. hehe

It's all just such good fun when out there together,, we had almost as many Tvr's on track as the race series!

I noticed Peter being careful through that tight chicane so when he was behind me I rammed it through there as I knew he'd be on me at the end of the straight otherwise,, it was a right ball trying invane to keep the dark destroyer at bay.
It was such fun because his car handles beautifully but he can't get past in the slow stuff so as long as I got away through the chicane it made it a race and you can imagine the feeing of doing 130 mph+ with him closing in towards the braking zone! I just had enough of a gap to justify staying ahead,, great fun. I just find the spectacle of these cars roaring around together fascinating and the noise is as good as any.

Anthony had a stressful morning getting there but it was nice to see his car performing so well too, sounds great his engine close up and sounds really smooth on track and it's got the same stance as Matt Smiths race car,, bit lower on the rear it seems,, it's set up well.

Top weekend and now back to reality.

Great day yesterday and nice to be able to put faces to names on here at last biggrin

I thought the TVR's added a lot to the day.....noise, poise, some more noise and a fantastic selection of colour as well as being very well driven hehe

The note from Peter is very true:

I had an incident on the twisty section that woke me up quite a bit. My suspension is set up quite firm and is fine on the road but clearly my tyres have past their sell by date so some new Yoko's are on order. A track day really does show up where you can make improvements and/or where some things need changing biggrin

When is the next one ?

I really enjoyed that track day so much so I have booked up for the 25th of September as well. One of the few trackdays I have done where there were no idiots, there is normally always one! Great to see a sensible approach to marshalling and noise testing, nice to do a trackday and not have to don the additional silencers.

Good to see all the usual faces, makes track daying a lot more fun then there are a few of you to have a laugh with and talk bks. I actually laughed so much I also span off when chasing Alun around the track with him hurling hand signal abuse at me.

Sorry the gentleman in silver cerb with the engine trouble. The cerb sounded ace going around the track. If you do need some engine work the Dom at power would be worth considering. I saw this last time I was up which Jason had just finished building compete with 5 year warranty I believe

Was a good day all told, but I too have the prospect of an engine swap or rebuild. I think a big end or main bearing has gone and that's why my S lost oil pressure (thought it was the hot weather). Only 2 and a half weeks till the S club Eurotour, no pressure then... rolleyes
I had sudden loss of oil pressure last year which turned out to be due to sump damage restricting the oil pickup. The bottom of the sump was dented upwards restricting the pickup strainer, the gap eventually got blocked by sludge and the oil pressure dropped. It was odd because cold it ran at 25 psi but came up to 35 when hot, obvious now as it was getting more oil as it got warmer and thinner.
Removed the sump and straightened it and it's now fine.

The track is really good and the surface quality is exceptional, as anyone who's done an airfield trackday will know they're not always that nice.. Already booked for 25th September but may well use the Lancia for that one. The S was fantastic yesterday, but more suited to open roads with it's current set-up.. biggrin

Good job diagnosing that - if you hadn't told us the answer that would have been a stumper.

Great minds think alike,,,,,, fools never differ,,, laugh
I'll book up for September as that was the best trackday I've experienced, just for the relaxed nature of it, the organisers, and having so many Tvr's there.

I think the paddock being so close to the track is cool, feel the on track action as your talking gibberish.

The one thing I would change is the only 15 cars on track rule - it would take 25 easily without feeling crowded, and that would save all that sitting getting very hot in a never-ending queue to get on track. "open pitlane" my derriere.

Made me think I was on a Javelin track day.....apart from the lack of spivvy stripped-out Beemers. MGZR 180s and Fiestas.

Waiting does get annoying but you still get plenty of track time and after Shakey being in the Que is all part of the bonding process with other drivers hehe
It's a short circuit, with our cars having good power were soon catching other cars so I quite like the space you get when you are on track with fewer cars. I never understand sitting in trains,,
Just ease off the gas for 20 seconds then slowly catch up again.
Getting caught up in other people's accidents is no fun and that's probably a bigger risk than crashing yourself.
I also like the solitude that comes with driving on your own sometimes,, just you the track and car,, that's really the test after all.
