Hi guys, dropped my OZ 8 spokes off to be powder chromed, really fancy some new domed 'TVR' centre badges which ive sourced already, now i have the original wheel centre caps & theres no way the old tatty'ish badges are going to come off those so i need some replacement centre caps..

Ive read various posts on here but none clearly state what the inside diameter should be & outside face diameter. Ive had a measure up with a dodgy tape laugh (only one in the house i could find) but I believe 52mm inside & looks like a 50mm face? Problem is i cant find such sizes on evilbay etc, so im wondering if anyone has ordered some previously & knows what size to look for exactly (links are more than welcome)

Cheers
Steve

These are super rare mate.. When I got my wheels done I removed the origional Tvr badges and they sprayed the caps with the wheels.. I then attached new centres..

If you look up the code on the inside of the caps you may find some on American eBay for like $40 each.. ;(

I would refurb the old ones I think.

Cheers

Cheers might end up trying them, I recon they might be 50mm inside too if there a tad loose? Also I take it they come without the fiat badge on?

This is a real problem now. I had some lovely prismatic domed badges which I had oversized to hide some paint chips around the edge of the cap aperture but all the suppliers seemed to have stopped selling such items. You can obtain flat stickers (and other decals) from this interestingly named website:

https://www.isaydingdong.co.uk/ourshop/cat_400120-...

I can look tomorrow at a cap and give an accurate measurement of the original logo diameter.

The actual plastic caps are, as stated, extremely rare. I almost cried once when I caught a tyre fitter trying to remove one from the front of the wheel......

Cheers
Tony

I believe the cap code is M075a from memory. MSL caps also made but still rare. Would be greatbif TVR parts could remanufacture will 3d printer tech it should be easy!

Hi Tony, that would be great thanks, i have used isaysingdong' before got them to make up my 'S' decals, hmm so a larger badge is another option.

laugh definitely wont be paying that, yes they are M075A there such a strange size, 52mm inside & 50mm outside, theres not even any universal ones on ebay in such sizes. I dont know how well there glued on but they seem like the outer lip would get damaged trying to prize them off scratchchin

I have measured a cap. Front diameter is 50mm, rear excluding lugs is 52mm and the badge size is 45mm. If the front of the cap is shabby you could just use a 50mm badge over the top.

The big problem with replacement are that all the ones that I have seen fit from the front rather than the back so the front face dimension is larger. Having said that once I have cut down an aerosol cap , taped in place with a badge over the top......

Tony your a gent! thank you, i think a 50mm badge over the top would work.. hopefully it will stick over the original domed ones ok without coming off? (or ill p40 over it first laugh)

As for the 3d resin domed TVR badges, £19.99 for the set in any colourways (finally time for me to order some)

Looks like Tony pressed "Submit" before me, laugh but as I've gone to the trouble of taking photos and typing it up... here's my tuppence worth...

M-075 is correct.

The internal diameter of the face is a smidge over 45mm so the badge you need will have to be 45mm dia. max. You can get the old badges off by drilling a small hole in the back of the plastic (not all the way through the badge) and pushing the badge up until you can get a thin blade underneath, and then ease it off.

Top-tip 1.
Before you send your wheels off for refurbishing, ease out the centre hole with a flap wheel, or similar, until you can push the cap easily in and out with just thumb pressure. This should mean that when you get your wheels back the caps will still push in and out without having to use any force.

This will mean:-
• You are unlikely to break the plastic tangs on the back of the cap.
• You won’t damage the new finish.
• This is essential if you are going for a diamond cut & lacquer finish, because one of the main reasons damp gets behind the lacquer in the centre of the wheel and starts the corrosion process all over again is because it has been cracked when the badge is rammed in.

Top-tip 2.
Take your precious caps out before taking the wheels to the local zoo to have your new tyres fitted.

Here endeth today’s lesson.

The existing badge is thin alloy, pierce it with a screwdriver and lever off... I think that what i did on a couple.. Press on the centre of the plastic so it's covered with new badges...

thank you man with the folding S roof wink & cheers Damian, i think ill give this method a go now if it fails then a 50mm badge straight over the top laugh
My oz 8 spokes are already at 'the local zoo' i removed the centre caps myself as they may have got 'misplaced' like the bits off my rocker covers did, but ive opted for a powder chrome finish in oppose to the diamond cut. Just debating on which colourway of badge to go with, silver with black logo or original black with silver hmm

It won't thumbup Those badges look good and they seem to do them in 45mm so worth persevering.

Your choice..... decisions, decisions...."classic" silver on black always looks good

but if you can fit 45mm discs inside the black plastic rim, maybe black lettering on a silver disc would look good too.

Tricky scratchchin

laugh I've tried but its not budging one bit, ended up poking through the metal inside of face. This is one battle I'm afraid I'll have to admit defeat on

Try drilling a small hole near the edge and then poke something blunt through. All you need to do is lift the old badge enough to get a thin blade underneath and then it will come off ..... eventually.

  • Update*
After failing to get the stubborn badges off my original centre caps (further damaged the already tatty badge on the one) I gave up & decided ordered some universal 52mm inside x 55mm face (couldnt find 50mm) off evilbay, size comparison the lugs etc look exactly like the originals..

Upon fitting them i found that they fitted in tight but kept bouncing back up abit which left them sitting proud about 2cm now im left in a predicament of either glueing them down flush, just sticking the 55mm badge directly over the centre hole or refitting old tatty ones frown

Also surprised when i picked up my wheels from powder coaters, they wasn't powder chrome.. but shadow chrome hmm, kind of getting used to them now i guess

Wheels look good. I think you're getting confused with "powder coating", which is the painting process, and "shadow chrome", which is the effect/finish you were wanting. I'd have been very happy if the guy who did my "shadow chrome" Estorils had given me the finish you have.
