Has Anyone Got...?

Nice. This is mine..
The cunning plan is to drill holes in the center of the cover around the badge, and fit a circular LED behind so the lights shine through the holes.
Also looking for green plastic rod to put in the holes. A bit like this but smaller, say 7mm.

That's the jobbie
Phillpot's suggestion would be more noticeable though, but as it's magnetic I'd have to glass a metal plate to the underside of the bonnet to give it something to stick to. I'll try the boss cap first I think, like this...
I wonder if my cunning plan isn't quite cunning enough? Will the circular LED work with power from the standard flasher unit?

It rather depends on the LED that is being used. It is possible to get 12v LED's that can be used without any additional resistors.
I think Philpotts idea is a good one, but the base of the light should be stuck to the horn boss.
If the flasher is a thermal switch type then it will need to be replaced with an electronic version because the LEDs won't pull enough current to heat the wire inside. I'm curious how you will get power through the column? The slip ring only has one conductor at the moment so you would need to add a couple more rings and brushes or do something with a transmitter/receiver?
Personally, I just stopped using the flashy stalk thing when it started refusing to turn off. Nobody notices in North Carolina though because they're too busy texting in their 3 ton mobile phone booths.

Presumably if the standard bulbs are retained at the corners of the car they will create the resistance to make the flasher flash?Loach1 said:

Agreed, this could be the biggest problem, slip ring (if you have one at all) will be single contact because it allows power to earth, through the column itself. v8s4me said:

mmmm, but when the wheel is turned, how will you know which indicator is on?Phillpot's suggestion would be more noticeable though, but as it's magnetic I'd have to glass a metal plate to the underside of the bonnet to give it something to stick to. I'll try the boss cap first I think, like this...

..if you are going to re-engineer it properly Joe, then perhaps you want to do the Citroen style steering wheel with a fixed centre piece which doe not rotate...
