I shaved the garage door post yesterday...
Too deep to polish out unfortunately. The chip repair guy has been round and is confident he can make it better but he's familiar with TVR's and can't grantee a colour match. I called the ever-helpful S&D who confirmed they would have used the paint code on the body plate as the starting point when they did the respray in 2011. It's an ICI colour so hopefully it will match. I told the chip guy he'd be famous on PH if he did a good job

How flipping annoying!! bit like the 90 yr old granny that slammed her shopping basket into my new co hack in the supermarket car park!! ! So annoying but cant unleash hell in such a situation. Just one of those irritating things joe that tests all of us. Hope a good job is done - maybe get him to do proper shadow chrome on those wheels at the same time?
Over my years of running older cars and enjoying doing my own bits of paint work in my amateurish way it was always a plus if a acquired a car with NON metallic paint.
Metallic is almost impossible to get a perfect colour match because viscosity of paint, spraying distance, spraying pressure and film thickness of the sprayed paint all make a difference to how the metallic particles sit and so give different shades of colour to the finished job.
Having said this the smart repair guys, unlike me,are doing this every day and also they can do their best work if they have a body crease to work with ....like where a wheel arch edge meets the wing.
So I guess you will get a 90% perfect job,I hope so anyway.

Here's a picture I took earlier today in full sunlight. If you look carefully you can just make out the repaired area as being slightly more "sparkly" than the surrounding paint, but you have to look very closely with the sun shining directly on the side of the car. So all in all, pretty good and so much better than it was.
The guy's name is Godfrey Green and his email is godfrey.green@chipsaway.co.uk
Nice guy, good job
