Not quite yet, still got lots of other jobs to do. But, one of the big ones appears to have been a victorious battle laugh

Still haven't decided how to kill the BP270 camshaft! But last week I got the S1 (aka HMS Morale as it now seems to be known) taxed and took it for a 25mile hike across the South Downs.

Had a great (short) run out. Engine is so much smoother than it was before, it's not even funny. Only annoyance is that I could have kept the alloy timing gear set in as it was making no difference to the noise at all, it seems. But it's a small gripe - I'm just glad to have it finally running like it should do.

One of the best mods I did was to fit S3 inner arches to the front end, which use the smaller piece mounted to the body, and a section mounted inside the bonnet. The originals were just one piece versions that hung from the body, and the front end had no liner at all, though the headlamps did have their own little covers. Main reason I wanted to do this was because the old ones were rubbing on bumps and on full lock, and I didn't want to jack it up like a monster truck now that I have the geo sorted nicely. the new ones are a much neater fit:

Still have a knackered fuel gauge sender (both leaking and lying) and I'd quite like to do the wide-open bonnet mount mod, but the workshop is pretty busy so time to do this isn't forthcoming. For those who were interested, it's probably something we'll knock up over winter ready for next year.
I also still need to improve the doors. The driver's door now has new window rubbers and the redesigned hinge mounting, but the alignment is still ever so slightly out. The passenger side needs new window rubbers, and the mounting bobbin is going to make a break for it sometime in the next year or so.

None of this matters though, because after all the work I put into the car throughout 2014 and 2015, it's finally turning into the car it should be. I drive lots of S' at work (funnily enough) and I can now truly say, hand on heart, that it's the best S1, or even V6-powered S I've driven.

Still not the best S I've ever driven full stop, of course. Damn Paul and his old red V8S hehe That is the S by which to judge all other S' as far as I'm concerned.
