I have an umbrella that more or less covers the opening with the rear section up. Many's the time I've sat in the paddock with the brolly keeping me dry while I wait to go on track.

Mark the propshaft and diff flanges with a centre-punch to make sure we can refit in the same position. Is this necessary?

Certainly good practice for the prop-shaft, maybe not so necessary for the drive shafts, imho.
I think I read somewhere that it is important not to change the direction of rotation of the drive shafts. So, it is always a good idea to mark them to put them back in the same position.

Be careful with the springy spacer, it's critical to the function of the handbrake. I almost broke mine trying to get the cable out.

Glad to hear that all went well and a 'big like' for the patriotic flag - I'll have to get one for my garage too smile

Are you thinking about the shafts themselves (the metal bars) or the whole assembly including the CV joints? I suppose there may be some effect from reversing the CVs so that the normal direction of load is bearing on an unworn surface - no idea whether that would be a benefit or a disadvantage. I can't imagine the metal bars will care which way round they are fitted. I generally keep them the same way round but that hasn't stopped me breaking several of them.

Two things:

If the complete shaft plus CV joint are just taken off and not disassembled, then it is a good idea to put them back in the same position, so the direction of rotation is not changed.

If the CV joint is being replaced, then during the disassembly it mentions the following in 'the Bible'

"Mark the joint housing and shaft so they can be reassembled in the same position"

I wonder if that will be the background component of the new TVR ( or perhaps it will be TFR? ) badge?
And will the Red Rose editions be superceded by Yellow Daffodil upgrades?
We certainly don't want the Big Leek version!

Sorry.

Now that everything is out I need to order a diff overhaul kit but don't know if it's 7" or 7.5"

The bolts are proving very tricky at the moment but I'd like to order asap to try and get ready for drive it day on 14th.

The numbers on the diff tag are: 85 GG HB 364 BA 0D25
and on the diff casing: 85 GG 4033 BA

Fordopedia.org has the diff casing as from a Sierra Mk1 1982-86

Does this help me to identify which size it is?

I believe they are all 7.5"

the difference can be seen on the top front mounting is solid across the full width on the 7.5"

As standard all 7.5"... Don't forget to drop an LSD in there while you are at it. One of the best mods you can do to the s IMHO

Not sure I can stretch that far, but there is 2.9 Scorpio going for scrap about a mile from me. Would the ratios/fittings be different/ a problem? Would it affect speed readings etc?
